Jeonghan and Jun, it's your first time shooting a pictorial together. what do each of you think you both have in common?
JH We're the best looking in seventeen.
JUN I’ll agree. With what Jeonghan said.
JH We're also both pranksters. However, I’ll go with best looking/handsome.How was the pictorial concept? It wasn't too difficult was it?
JUN I don't know if it's because I've done many concepts including a bold/glamorous one, but it wasn't difficult. If I have to say, having to contain my hunger? That was a bit hard.
JH I'm the type to say 'I'll accomplish this somehow'. I kept
thinking to myself 'It's pretty' 'It's coming out well' while having fun shooting.You're so relaxed, like a photoshoot master (laughs).
JH I'll express it as ‘Jun and Jeonghan have good chemistry'.

SEVENTEEN comeback is April 24th. How are you preparing and how do you feel about it? I wonder if your preparation is as ambitious as it is your first time promoting with a double title?
JH We said this while preparing. If by chance the songs don't receive the reactions we expect, it's something we can still be proud of. I think that's how satisfied and precious this album will be to us. I do think to myself, as much as the [album making] process was good, wouldn't CARATs' reaction be good too?
JUN Performance wise, it's the most intense out of the history of SEVENTEEN'S [performances]. It's more difficult than 'Getting Closer' 'HIT' and 'HOT'. I can surely compare it because we performed 'HIT' and 'HOT' at our world tour, which ended in December.The meaning of <FML> is 'F*ck My Life'. It's an intense title, how did you feel when you first heard it?
JH I really liked it. I thought, 'We can even show this side of us now?' As much as we are experienced, I think there will be a wider spectrum of what the public can feel about us.
JUNIt’s been almost 8 years since your debut on May 26th. I now know SEVENTEEN will be together for a long time. What was the moment you confidently knew this?
JH That confidence was always there.
JUN That's right. I think it was always there since after debuting.
JH There was inevitably a sort of hierarchy/ranking during our trainee days, but we slowly became friends. Back then, we tried to converse for at least an hour a day. But as time went on, it became once a week, then once a month, and eventually became blurry. So recently, even if it's forceful, we decided to meet up and eat together once a month no matter what. That way, we can confidently say we feel like real family and friends.

A few days ago, I saw the group photo [at regular meeting] on social media. I heard the fee for being late is a lot.
JH The fee for being absent is even more. You have to show up, even if you're 3 hours late.
JUN We jokingly said that even if you're sick, you have to show your face then leave. But that's something we can understand since it's just between us. Honestly, keeping a promise and meeting up with 13 members isn't easy. But I'm relieved everyone agreed to it.The members' relationships are all a little different. Is there any change between your relationship compared to when you were trainees or at the beginning of your debut?
JH Jun has always been the same. He still uses formal language to his hyungs. He still jokes around like back then, and he's a kind-hearted and cute younger brother to me.
JUN Not too long ago, Coups hyung asked me why I still use formal language, that he's sad about it. I try my best to use casual language with my hyungs, but the honorifics just come out sometimes. Jeonghan hyung is so warm and jokes around a lot, so the younger ones can comfortably approach him. There are many times when I get tired while trying to get through my schedule, but thanks to Jeonghan, my stress is relieved, and it feels like time goes by fast.In what way is Jeonghan like that?
JUN He’s pretty low tension. I often try to make the atmosphere more energetic, but if I start getting weird (positive), he’s a member who calms me down. Like with a car, rather than the fuel, he’s the grease/lubricant.
JH I just receive the members well. I’m not good at cheering them up by saying like ‘Let’s go~!’

What’s something you’re concerned about the other person, but you’ve never shared with them?
JH I try to speak to Jun as affectionately as I can. He’s kind-hearted, but there are moments when he suddenly gets mad (laughs). But I think that’s just the difference in the way we speak, so I do think about it in that sense. I’ve never fought with Jun.
JUN There’s one time we fought, during trainee days. I was still learning Korean in full swing, but when I said something, Jeonghan must’ve heard it in a bad way. It was really early on, so it’s a bit iffy [what happened].
JH I did? I don’t remember.
JUN Jeonghan hyung is usually fine, but when he’s tired or having a hard time, it’s best not to talk to him. The members all know. In those moments, he takes care of himself, and you shouldn’t joke with him either.
JH There’s moments when everything annoys you (laughs).Let’s say something to each other, as you’ll be working together again.
JUN I always say this to the members, but I hope we’re always happy and healthy. We’ve been sick a couple of times before when promoting, and it’s not easy. Take care of your health, and exercise here and there. Hyung, let’s stretch before you dance!
JH And you make sure you’re not just eating spicy foods all the time, drink lots of water. Be healthy, don’t get hurt, I love you, and let’s do this together.

You're about to make a comeback with your 10th mini album <FML> on April 24th. Do you have a personal routine when waiting for comeback?
DK I can't really sleep the night before release because I get so nervous. I tend to be like that with any important event. After the release, I thoroughly search for CARATs' reactions.
SC I monitor any photos, the music video, and any content that's been prepared once again. I imagine the points CARATs would like and run a simulation in my head. I wait for the release while constantly studying any necessary elements or shining points for the stage.This album having two titles is the hot topic lately. It's your first double title, was there a specific reason why?
SC The members had strong willingness. However, since this could lose focus [on one track], the company had some concerns as well. But we were confident. We wanted to do it both ways. The music we want to do and the message we want to send are captured in both titles, so we strongly pushed for it.I can feel your strong confidence and desire to go on a new path as artists.
SC That's right. It kind of felt like if we didn't attempt it, we would start to be left in the dust. We attempted various things and tried new challenges. Personally, out of all the released albums, I am most satisfied with this one.
DK The vibe of the titles is completely different. 'SUPER' is a song with a performance you think of when you say SEVENTEEN. 'F*ck My Life' has a beautiful sound. The song is special because it talks about something we've never talked about before. I think we're able to tell this story because of who we are now, in 2023.

If you had to choose, which part of the album should we look out for?
DK 'All time performance' 'All time album'. It's SEVENTEEN's all time [best/most legendary] performance & album. The visual & performance, even sound- we didn't miss a thing. It's a ground-breaking scale!
SC It's our first time focusing on the group itself. The whole process was a challenge. We had the mindset of "Let's do everything we want, it's okay to". It's an album that will remain in our hearts the most after a long time.As intensely as you practiced, is there a certain feedback you want to hear?
DK I feel a strong desire to hear this kind of feedback: 'SEVENTEEN surpassed SEVENTEEN!' 'Why does SEVENTEEN keep getting cooler as time goes on? Are they becoming more perfect?'
SC The staff who worked on <FML> with us said 'You work so hard in your year' a lot. Whenever I heard that, I was happy. It's like, we could take the safe and stable route, so is it really necessary to go this far? The people involved were fine, but it was a journey of pushing each other so much that the people around us said 'Why go this far?'This energy is like a well that doesn't dry up. Where does this explosive energy come from?
SC My energy fills up when I see people who are pleased with us. We also get thrilled when we see someone's performances. I can only work hard when I think about people feeling that excitement from our own stages. I plan on trying something more.
DK I think we're attention-seekers on stage. We have the greed to show everything we've got on stage. I think it's only possible because it's a mindset all the members embrace.
SC Right. In my opinion, I think the 'SUPER' performance has some influence from last year's end of the year stage. You know how the end of the year stage, it's with fellow artists and their fans. We didn't have that for a while because of the pandemic, but last year we could see the other artists' reactions and responses. That's when our desire to show them who we are, why we're SEVENTEEN, grew bigger. We'll have to tear the stage with 'SUPER' at the end of this year!

<FML> broke 4M preorders. How did you feel when you heard the news?
DK I was so shocked! It's just amazing. Achievements aren't defined by album sales or numbers, but it was possible because of CARATs' devotion. I feel like I was hit by overflowing love.
SC I thought that we're still rising [to the top]. Since we still have more to go, the thought that I have to live more diligently deepened.You set records every promotion. What is SEVENTEEN's strength?
DK It's an obvious answer, but it's the entirety of CARATs. All the members know that love isn't a given, and the desire to be someone who can repay that love is big. We can only joyfully work hard knowing we can be a good influence and give good energy while doing what we can do.
SC In addition, each of our performances are very precious. I don't know about anything else, but we've never once performed carelessly. As singers, we take on the mindset of being responsible for my work on stage.What kind of responsibility do you feel as SEVENTEEN on stage?
SC I think I'm blessed to have the job of an idol. It's the kind of job where you can give good energy to someone. But it's true that there's still a negative image about being an idol. I want SEVENTEEN to break that prejudice. I want to change the notion that idols are born from talented and versatile people coming together. With that sense of duty, I put my soul into the performances.What is something you respect about each other lately?
SC [He is] our main vocal, who we're proud anywhere and in front of anyone. SEVENTEEN songs are really difficult. I don't even dare to sing it at karaoke. I think our songs feel even more perfect/complete because of Dokyeom. Ah, I watched Dokyeom's <Mask Singer> again yesterday and he sang breathtakingly well.
DK Why did you watch that [?]. I danced breathtakingly then too (laughs). As a rapper, hyung you balance our team with your voice and visuals. You're a leader who speaks for and represents the team really well. You're the prime example of a leader to the point where l'm not sure if SEVENTEEN would be where we are now if you weren't our leader.Dokyeom, you also promoted with 'BSS' as the leader. Is that position surely different?
DK As I was in the leader position, I surely felt the responsibility. It's not like I took on some big leader role, but I felt like I couldn't fall apart, and I felt the pressure to kind of hold the center together well. Just like S.COUPS does, I worked really hard to listen to the members well and mediate. Of course our members are the type to play on their own without the leader, and there's times when they film challenges together without me! But I think I can understand hyung's hard work a little more. (laughs)

As your influence grows, you probably have concerns as a leader regarding the team's direction. What is something you're concerned about lately?
SC I think about how to communicate in a healthy way. In order for the team to keep going as one, I can't fulfill everyone's opinions. In that case, I think more about how I can talk to the members without hurting them. As time passes, the members will grow and their individual paths will open up. At some point, my words can hurt them, and they might start to think more about their role in the team. I think about how to communicate in a way that will hurt them less.
DK You're seriously the prime example of a leader. 'Prime Leader!'We shoot for a 'career high' every album. Is there a way you picture yourself at the peak?
SC When you decide your peak, you have to come down once you reach it. Every moment that we are releasing albums while making music we want to make is a career high, just like we are doing now.
DK I believe we're a team that is always growing. We're climbing to the top even now, and I like that there's a process. The 'career high' for us is more so the process rather than the results. I think we went through a very happy process for this album, so l'm even more satisfied.When you say SEVENTEEN, you say strong teamwork. Have you made any plans to build the foundation of your teamwork before all the comeback activities?
SC Recently, we created the team's monthly regular meetings. Even if it's slightly forceful, we decided to gather and eat together at least once a month. Before preparing this album, the members said they wanted time to think about the team again. Our years as a group are growing and there are more personal activities/schedules, so it's possible that our focus could drift elsewhere, but if that happens, I thought that the team's atmosphere could change. We shared our opinions with one another and said we want to think of the team first. That's how the 13-member dinners were born.You can see that 'real tension*" in all your content. Your consistency in energy with <Going Seventeen> is impressive as well. Shall we pick an episode to recommend to CARATs who will become a fan during this promotion? You must watch these!
DK 'TTT'. It's probably the most "us" content. If we want to focus on becoming a fan, then 'Don't Lie' is good too. I personally like the world of 'EGO' and 'Bad Clue' too.
SC I also choose 'Bad Clue'. I should choose one where we look cool.*t/n: ‘찐텐' stands for ‘진짜’ (real) + ‘텐션’ (tension) but it kind of means like genuine emotionIs there anything you do for yourself in your daily life while preparing for the hectic comeback?
DK When I eat, I order everything I want. I'm the type to get happy when I eat something delicious, so that's what I do. I can do at least this for myself who has worked hard!
SC You're so you, it's nice. The only thing I do for myself is jiu-jitsu. I did it today as well.In what moment do you think you are living well as Choi Seungcheol & Lee Seokmin?
DK When the members look at me and laugh/smile. Whether it's Dokyeom or Lee Seokmin, I really love it when I make the members laugh.
SC I'm satisfied if I know the team is maintained. Because Choi Seungcheol and S.COUPS are one.

This is your first time shooting a pictorial together?
SK It feels kind of awkward (laughs). Dino is a younger brother I treasure, my [old] fellow trainee, and my soulmate. The fact that we're shooting a really cool pictorial other than an album photoshoot makes me really happy.
DINO It's so fun. There's a lot of combinations within SEVENTEEN. Amongst that, CARATs say Seungkwan hyung and I have a 'fun' chemistry, and I have high anticipations because I think we can show a cool side of us through this pictorial as well.How have you been spending your days lately? I heard you were really busy preparing for your album?
DINO Last month, we prepared the fanmeet, and these days we've been busily recording and practicing the new album. Personally, I find a lot of healing moments when I'm working. I've been spending my days making time every now and then to create choreography and make songs little by little.
SK As soon as I finished the promotions for 'Fighting', I went to prepare for the next album, so l was so busy that I wondered how it already became April. But when I have the time, I do leisure activities and spend my time healing. That way I can get more energy (laughs).You're coming back with a mini 10th album. The members seem to be very confident in this album?
SK I feel like I always say this, but this album is 'for real'. I can say 'we put in everything'. We tried to put in what we wanted along with what SEVENTEEN is good at. More than anything, our desire to give CARATs our passion and energy was big, so it was life or death since preparing for the album.

For the first time since your debut, you had a teaser about a 'double title'- is there a specific reason why?
SK Since it's something we've never done before, I thought that CARATs could have a new/fresh feeling about it too. Also, the songs contrast each other a lot, so we plead and requested to the agency "We really want to go with a double title". The members and I already heard the song many times. I'm telling you, it makes your heart race (laughs).
DINO Once you listen to them, the songs will confirm why it had to be a double title, and you'll see why they're both necessary for the album composition. This album might feel very new/different, but that's how much we filled it with songs we are confident in.It seems like it's a bit different than your existing works.
DINO Both the scale of preparing the album and the teamwork between the members was a bit different. We've always tried our best to have the same mindset, but this time it felt like all of our opinions were united without a single person feeling different. And we've always liked our choreography and music, but this time, the members had the same mind and accord that "This is going to be big".Truthfully, along with your comeback, SEVENTEEN have established themselves as a group with anticipation on how you will do on international charts. Do you feel pressured at all regarding this?
DINO Rather than having a specific wish of being number 1 on a chart, I'm hoping there will be more matters. I have the greed /desire to have the reaction "I've never seen this kind of album in the K-POP scene before" from not just CARATs, but other K-POP fans or international fans.
SK While I do want every album we release to do well, I don't think I've always had the thought of wanting it to be 1st. Even a little bit ago when I was promoting for BSS, it was my first time experiencing what it felt like to do better than what we imagined. It was cool then too, but it's true that I want to prove how big of a synergy can come about SEVENTEEN when we are together as a whole.You received a lot of love for 'Fighting' from not just CARATs, but the public too.
SK That's right. That's why I want our stage to be the topic of conversation once people see it. If somehow our song doesn't captivate the public, I want a variety of people to be interested in the scale or quality of performance. I want to be talked about as "K-POP stage legends".I've seen that Seungkwan and Dino have the fun nickname 'show-window enemies'.
DINO If we had to pick who fights the most between the members, it would probably be us (laughs).

Why on earth do you guys fight so much? (laughs)
SK It's not that we are totally incompatible, but in the parts that we don't fit, we really don't fit. That's why we go 'pop' and explode. Haha.
DINO What's crazy is, when we were trainees, we couldn't live without each other. Back then, I went back and forth from Seoul and Iksan to train. And Seungkwan hyung came up from Jeju-do and stayed in Seoul.
SK Dino came up to Seoul on Fridays after finishing school. On Monday through Thursday before Dino came, time didn't pass and I would miss him so much. At first, we liked each other so much we would just crack up and smile just from seeing each others' faces. It was our first time entering the real world, and Dino followed me everywhere. If I'm doing laundry, he would just dilly-dally next to me (laughs). As we've loved each other and time went on, we found parts of us that were incompatible, which made us fight a lot. But now I love him again. I think it's love-hate. Love-hate.It's amazing just listening to it.
DINO That's why I just think of him as family. If I had an older brother, I often think he would be like Seungkwan hyung.
SK It's amazing to us too how we’ve become like this. The members and the people around us are jealous of us (laughs). We fight and go back and forth, have fun bad-mouthing each other during schedule, and by the end of the day, we're drinking beer together.You're like 'real' siblings. There's the phrase 'The best hate-relationship'. Haha.
SK There's probably no relationship like ours right? Every now and then we want to criticize each other, and it's so fun. Haha.
DINO Hey (laughs). In moments like this, I think I'm a warmer person than Seungkwan hyung. I at least try to speak more nicely to him because he could get hurt.
SK I see you were trying to be warm. Hahaha.
DINO Haha. Actually when I was younger, I couldn't really express my emotions to my hyungs. I felt comfortable and close to Seungkwan hyung, so l was especially more honest with him. It's actually something I'm so grateful for. It's not a given, but l have a hyung who accepts me that much.

Not just the two of you, but SEVENTEEN has a lot of members. Just like how SEVENTEEN has the best chemistry, apparently there's over 8000 relationship combinations in the group. Do you think SEVENTEEN's 'teamwork' potential comes from this chemistry?
DINO The only reason we're able to have that chemistry is because all 13 members are different. Not a single person is like another, and even though everyone is firm in their own thoughts, weirdly enough, it's not awkward when we're put together.
SK We've felt both joy and sorrow together, so we feel bonded and we're able to understand how we feel without saying anything. More than anything, the members are passionate and love being singers, so they always put out lots of good energy. Rather than our teamwork and charm being formed by an individual's chemistry, I think it became complete because of the time we spent together.But I still feel like you fight sometimes (laughs).
SK We fight a lot. A lot. (laughs)
DINO We fight a lot during practice too. But the members are the type to resolve it then and there.
SK This is how much we fought. It's to the point where everyone already knows the repertoire of what someone fought about, so the fact that someone just tells that story later becomes so funny we just laugh.
DINO We really fight about anything and everything. Haha.
SK But also if you see the people who fight trying to resolve it? You have no idea how cute it is.You can see the essence of SEVENTEEN'S teamwork in <Going Seventeen», and it's even called 'friend I eat with' to the general public. Are you guys aware that you're receiving so much love?
SK Of course. We also rewatch it a lot too. We pick out and watch the legendary episodes, and as we chitchat, we start a meeting about ideas for our next content.Dino, you've been spending time together with 12 hyungs. Are you used to it now?
DINO Now I'm like friends with my hyungs, so when we're together, I feel assured, and they've become people I want to take good care of. When we were rookies, the hyungs would take more care of me. And while I wished for their comfort/consoling, maybe because I was so young, I couldn't really talk about what I felt inside, and I didn't know how, so l had a hard time. But of course the hyungs were also young (laughs).
SK Dino and I are very similar when it comes to emotions. But when it comes to fighting, we would both think logically and try not to lose, which is why we end up fighting more. You have no idea how spiteful I was when we fought and then you went to go play with other hyungs.
DINO Hey, I was sad too!

Comparing how you felt when you first debuted to now, has a lot changed?
DINO My actual situation and skills have really changed a lot. Because that's how much l've grown.
SK But one thing that I feel hasn't changed is my passion and my love for CARATs. If anything it got bigger, but I don't think it changed or got smaller.
DINO Right. And the relationship between the members is the same.What is a way you get over a slump or burn out?
SK I feel like the moment you try to overcome it, you fall deeper into it. Usually when you feel on your own that you're getting burnt out, then it's already been happening. So I think a way to get over that is to accept that you're burnt out and not try to force yourself to get out of it. Recently the members really looked out for me, waited for me, and silently took care of me. Dino also told me he's so glad he could take care of me, that he won't ask me what happened but he'll just wait for me. Those words couldn't have assured me more.
DINO When you're too tired, I think it's good to be alone for a bit. It's important to give yourself time to think about things naturally. To overcome it in your own way.What kind of artist do you want to be going forward?
SK I want to be an artist who gives many people good energy. Not everyone can love me, but I want to give many people good strength.
DINO I want to be an artist who can continue to show newness/freshness. I love the stage so much, so in that sense, I want to be an artist who always shows fun, touching, and new/interesting stages.Shall we say a word to CARATs who have been with you for a long time?
DINO This album is, once again, going to make history in SEVENTEEN. I'm very confident in this album. We're going to come back with a really touching album for CARATs, so please look forward to it and enjoy it as it is.
SK I think CARATs always give me so much strength. For every comeback, I wonder 'How could I have lived without seeing these people' (laughs). I hope you can be with us this comeback and feel overwhelming (pos) emotions. I trust that you will acknowledge us as much as we prepared this life or death. How have you been?
It's a bit sad, but despite accomplishing so many things, I felt like I couldn't fully enjoy those accomplishments. After the concert, we moved right onto the next schedule and were busy preparing the next album, etc. Since I was just thinking about the next schedule each and every day, I couldn't fully feel a sincere sense of achievement.SEVENTEEN experienced so many big things the past 2 years. One of those things is the tour, and last week was the Seoul concert. And there isn't much time left till the Japan concert. You released many new songs, and received good feedback. There must've been many fulfilling moments.
When the album was released, my emotions were at its peak, but I feel like it wasn't until after promotions when I was able to slowly digest a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. l also needed a time when the members and I could share stories about our achievements. But we don't have many chances to do that. We always ask "What should we do next?" and tend to talk more about our next steps.I see the discussions you've had for the past 2 years about what to do next have been a very continuous process.
That's right. It's become our vibe to bounce ideas back and forth with each other. And among the members, Woozi is good at unraveling those ideas.Have any of your ideas or the direction you wanted been reflected [in SEVENTEEN's results]?
The members and I all wanted to show a top-notch performance. So that's how we prepared <Super>. Ever since we planned <Super>, we wanted to do a mega crew level performance, a perfect one that no one would be able to copy. This idea clicked well [with everyone], so I feel like my passions burned more in that direction.

I feel like rather than just showing what you're good at, SEVENTEEN is always trying new challenges that almost make people taken aback. Such as [releasing] songs that diverge out of the flow of pop music. And in SEVENTEEN's recent releases, there were some songs that felt old-fashioned. I got the impression that 'These guys really sincerely do what they want to do'.
That's right. I don't think we limit ourselves to the trend. We have a strong mindset of 'Let's do what we want. We're the players [in this game], so we seem the most confident when we do what we want'.They say the bird fights its way out of the egg. You grow up to a certain point, but you reach a plateau when you don't see a way up anymore. In order to overcome this, you attempt something different than before. SEVENTEEN might have had a moment like this. When did you break out of the egg?
That's right. When I first heard the title <Super> from Woozi, I felt it was very challenging. I thought 'This is pretty bold'. A lot of people were worried, and when the tracklist was released, I saw that even CARATs reacted like 'What is Son Wukong!' But even this reaction became an opportunity for challenge for us. Our journey up until now, our feelings, and the vision we're continuing to unfold are all poured into the title <Super>. We wanted to show all of this through our 10th mini album <FML>, and that's how we overcame this phase of change.What did you look forward to when preparing the past Seoul concert? You must be anticipating the Japan dome tour that's coming up too.
I had a lot of concerns when preparing for the Seoul concert. We decided the setlist with the staff and went into practice, but after that, we changed the entire setlist. We didn't have much time, but we decided to go through with it by saying 'For the sake of being satisfied with the concert, we can do it. Our choreographer, staff, and all of us worked really hard, and thanks to that we were satisfied with the concert. Afterwards, we talked about how we were glad we changed the setlist, and that it would've been regretful to go with the first one. I'm very grateful to the staff and their great efforts. Also, our tour is starting with the Seoul concert, but during our last tour, we couldn't enjoy each city's culture and experiences. I hope that isn't the case this time.You know how there's a lot of fighting/arguing while preparing for a concert. SEVENTEEN has a lot of members, and everyone is very vocal and clearly states their opinions, so I think it's important to have a leader who can mediate well.
I think I have a pretty big say in the middle. And the members matured a bit more after the contract renewal. We were considerate of each other before that, but I think we sincerely consider each other even more now. Since we understand each other, mediating is a breeze. And because of this, I don't necessarily need to always mediate in difficult situations. During meetings, we've been good at being considerate of one another and progressing like this.

What's your role in meetings? Since you're the leader, the chairman?
Whatever we talk about in the meetings, I relay to the company. When I meet with the members, I ask 'So what's the conclusion?' and gather everyone's opinions and then tell the company.So you're like the commanding officer. Also, when you're touring overseas, the experiences you have must inspire your future activities. What specific experiences did you have?
It feels very natural. Rather than learning something in particular, I think I was really influenced by the unique energy of the people in each country and the atmosphere of each place. The atmosphere or feeling of a particular city inspires me. Whether I'm writing a happy or sad song for a new album, I recall how I felt at that time and reflect that in my work.You met a lot of overseas fans. SEVENTEEN'S popularity overseas is amazing. And there's a shocking amount of fans who dance to your choreography. How do you feel when you're performing on an unfamiliar stage and you see fans sing along to your songs, cheer for you and love you?
I feel sorry. These days, 1 year feels extremely short to us. If we had more time, we'd want to meet CARATs with even more songs. We actually planned to have one more concert in Seoul, but due to scheduling conflict, we couldn't go through with it. I always think about how we wish we could go see overseas CARATs more. Especially Europe- we couldn't have a concert there yet. We planned to tour in Europe, but it got postponed due to COVID-19, and we still haven't been able to do it. My heart hurts when I think about how much those CARATs must've looked forward to it, and how much CARATs in other cities longed for us.In Korea, the average idol makes sales through events within the country, but groups with more popularity go on tour to increase revenue. Right now, SEVENTEEN is at a place where you're increasing profit by touring. Did you think this day would come when you first debuted?
We actually started off with the concept of 'Performance-type idols' ever since our trainee days. That's how confident we were in our stages. We were certain that if we did a concert once, CARATs would see our performance and come back again. We thought that if we started a tour, we could keep touring afterwards. Actually getting to this point was extremely difficult, but we performed with the certainty that 'We're going to be idols who have successful tours no matter what'.

That's why you did so many tours. By now, you probably have a desire to try different kinds of productions at your concerts. Not just performance-wise, but I feel like you'd want to bring all of the elements of a concert to life. This may be the case for your upcoming Japan tour too, but do you have any concert ideas you're picturing?
Yes, that's right. We're continuing with 5 dome tours, starting with Tokyo dome, we're releasing a best album at the start of tour, so we're creating a stage that centers around the songs in that album. And for other overseas tours, rather than just the production, we more highly consider communicating with CARATs. When I see CARATs from stage, they enjoy the music in their own ways. We're trying to prepare stages while keeping in mind what CARATs in their respective areas want and what their tendencies are. For instance, in America, CARATs dance however they want in their seats during the encore stages. So we create a concert where we can communicate with carats and tell them to dance freestyle.I recently looked up articles about SEVENTEEN, and saw that the 'Rock with you' music video reached over 100 million views. What's important is SEVENTEEN has 7 songs that have over 100M views.
We never thought we'd achieve that. I can't believe it either. I can only feel thankful for the people who watch it. I'm stunned.That's how much you've been active. What's the secret to coming this far?
We don't really think about the regrets when we reminisce about the past. Whether it comes to daily life or when we're working on an album, we're the type to focus on looking ahead and going in that direction. When we momentarily look back during our short breaks, rather than the regrets, we tend to see how far we've come. When we see those results, we dream of more challenges and achievements. I think unconditional faith is important. I completely trust the members and the company, so even if I don't know what will happen, I proceed with confidence.Do you feel that you succeeded as an artist?
No. Not yet. I always work thinking we want to be the best. But I still feel I'm lacking as compared to our sunbaes. When I see their accomplishments and the high standards they've set, I don't think I've met them yet. I still think we're far from number one.You're immersed in your activities as artist, but you have your personal life too. How do you balance 27 year old Choi Seungcheol and S.COUPS?
Choi Seungcheol and S.COUPS are one. I wanted to separate the two in the past, but eventually I thought of them both as a part of me. I thought there was no need to act differently based on a situation. That made me more comfortable and lessened my burdens. Of course, I'm always careful where I need to be, and l've become more aware.It's already your 8th year. There are probably concerns you have, as time is flying by. Such as whether you'll be able to actively and fully perform like you do now in 15 years, or whether you need to create a new foundation for S.COUPS for the future.
I've been thinking about this recently. What I want to tell CARATs is that I don't have specific dreams I want to achieve for myself. If SEVENTEEN stops promoting, I think I'll wrap up my time in the entertainment industry. I don't have any desire in individual promotions, variety programs, or acting. I know myself, so I know I can be devoted to the team without having these desires. I let go of any personal greed to focus on the team. And I decided this trusting that the members will continue on promoting with the team. We'll probably release albums like we do now on our 15th and 20th anniversary. If CARATs decide to wait, I think we can perform maybe once a year or more. I'll be thankful even then.

What are your personal goals?
To protect the team. Looking back, we fought a lot over little things and got hurt by minor misunderstandings, so I want to avoid that as much as possible. I believe the members feel the same way. It's not easy to protect the team, but l'm trying my best to do so.There's about 4 months left in the year. You might be busy as you have the tour, but since you're SEVENTEEN, I feel like you'll show some remarkable work.
I think we will. We've been constantly releasing two albums every year, so l think we'll show you good music this time too.If you could give a hint about the next album?
The work that's in progress now is even more shocking than <Super>. [The concept of] <Super> at least made some sense, and it was fresh and fun, but there's a lot of shocking elements in this new piece. It has a fresh idea at its foundation, with some unconventional ideas poured into it. Yes, we're preparing a lot of fun content.You're saying there's many ideas that were derived from a new chapter?
That's right. I think it'll be really fun. There's not a single member in our team who is normal when it comes to work. I think the ideas we throw around are all really fun.I'm curious which is more fun: Right now, 8 years since your debut or 2-3 years since you've gotten used to being in the entertainment business in full swing.
In the past, I couldn't properly enjoy the work I was given, and I simply just went along with any situation. I just blindly did what I was told because I thought it'd be good for the team. However, now we realized we don't have much time, so I think a lot about how to use that time well so that we get the best results. Whenever we have time, I say 'Let's try this' or 'Should we take a break with everyone and get a drink?' and have time to relax by making plans.In regards to music, you're trying a lot of different things.
Thankfully, it's all because of CARATs support and cheers. With that strength, we're able to make the music we want with a little more confidence. And we grew in terms of music. Now that there's a lot more CARATs, we have more confidence.Is there anything you're worried about?
Back then, I was worried we'd lose popularity, but not anymore. I trust that if we try hard, good results will follow. If we succeed once, I wonder what other opportunities await us. I don't take into account going downhill, I have confidence we can secure our position, and I trust that if we work hard like we do now, we'll have good results.You have this certainty because you didn't limit yourselves to the trend and worked according to SEVENTEEN's own style, and the result received good reactions.
I feel ten feet tall. And I have confidence. We've changed a lot. We're certain we can overcome no matter what.When is SEVENTEEN's prime?
We haven't reached it yet. I hope it comes soon.

Celebrating the 5th Anniversary since their Japanese debut! Interview with SEVENTEEN's JEONGHAN and JOSHUA
SEVENTEEN is a 13-member group that produces, choreographs, and directs their own music. Starting from the synchronised dances of each individual member, their high-level performances continue to make many fans. Their 10th Mini Album ^ FML a , released in April this year, was an astounding major hit and recorded over 6.2 million copies, setting a new record for highest number of K-POP album sales.
Without further ado, from the same group that released SEVENTEEN JAPAN BEST ALBUM [ALWAYS YOURS] and are about to hold 2023's largest scale dome tour in 5 cities - [SEVENTEEN TOUR 'FOLLOW' TO JAPANI, JEONGHAN and JOSHUA have arrived! Please enjoy feeling the closeness from the pair who have been together since their trainee days from this exclusive interview.

10th Mini Album 「FML」 is a major hit thanks to CARATs

You've recorded a major hit from your 10th Mini Album 「FML」 in the first half of the year.
JEONGHAN I feel extremely thankful. In the future, I want to work even harder to show a better side to the CARATs that have achieved this unbelievable record.
JOSHUA I feel the same as JEONGHAN. We could've never come this far without CARATs, so I think we have to work even harder.What are your impressions of each other's parts in 「Super」, one of the title tracks?
JEONGHAN JOSHUA's [DARUMDARIMDA] part is my favourite. It's strangely charming, but it's hard to explain why, which makes it feel even more interesting and attractive.
JOSHUA I think it's amazing that JEONGHAN tried rapping, and what's more, I was surprised because it was so good. He assimilated a part that he never imagined for himself and produced a new voice. 「Super」 is also a song with a difficult performance, but we were cheering each other up [fighting!] and giving each other strength. When we saw each other getting tired, we would encourage each other by saying "cheer up a little more!"
JEONGHAN JOSHUA encouraged me more.
JOSHUA And I was proud of JEONGHAN, who responded by working hard.

During your stay in Japan, find delicious food with the members and refresh yourself

What are your must-go places when you stay in Japan?
JOSHUA I go to Shibuya, Harajuku, and Omotesando to shop.
JEONGHAN I take walks around that area too.You uploaded photos onto SNS when you went to an izakaya! Do you have any must-orders?
JOSHUA Come to think of it, whenever I come to Japan, I feel like going to a yakitori restaurant with the members. I like [chicken] hearts and skin, and I prefer it with salt! I also like any type of nabe. And mizutaki (chicken hot pot) is also delicious.
JEONGHAN Draft beer, fried chicken. After that, I eat what the members ordered with them.
JOSHUA We're going to Fukuoka for the first time in a while during the dome tour, so I'm looking forward to being able to eat ramen and stuff like motsunabe with the members.
JEONGHAN One of my most memorable memories from Fukuoka was taking a stroll along the riverside while looking at the cherry blossoms. I wanted to go to some food stalls too!I understand that you hold regular meetings that are for members only. What would you do if you were holding it in Japan?
JOSHUA I like sushi, so I want to hold it at a place that does 'omakase'.
JEONGHAN It'd be fun for us to each buy a convenience store meal and hold it in a hotel room.Is there a dress code you want to try in the future?
JOSHUA I want to do a cool "suits" style just like the main protagonist of the [007] movie series.
JEONGHAN (thinks for a while) Teletubbies. I'll be Po.

Just looking at their faces will heal you

Do you ever discuss your concerns with each other?
JOSHUA Yes. JEONGHAN always listens to me. I feel like that’s not easy. He’s a good friend!
JEONGHAN With a knock at his room, just seeing JOSHUA’s face is healing.
JOSHUA He has also burst in without knocking. When I ask what’s up, he says “I’m just wondering if you’re doing well”, and just leaves right after. (Laughs)
JEONGHAN Our hotel rooms were next to each other, so I just went in briefly.Please tell us about when you found each other cute.
JEONGHAN When JOSHUA eats food like “nyam-nyam”, it’s really cute.
JOSHUA It’s cute when JEONGHAN tries to eat rice with all his might, grain by grain.What do you think has changed from the past?
JOSHUA I think JEONGHAN is a lot less shy now. He used to be more shy, but now he’s become more open. It especially feels that way when he meets someone for the first time.
JEONGHAN Maybe it’s because I got older and have more experience. I think it’s good that JOSHUA has always remained the same and has a consistent personality. His attitude towards life never changes and he always gives it his all.
JOSHUA The part of JEONGHAN that hasn’t changed is his appearance. He’s always cool.
JEONGHAN I think it’s because I’m taking care [of myself] (laughs).

Q&A with JEONGHAN from ELLE Japan!

What's your night beauty routine?
JEONGHAN Firstly, I use a cleansing balm, then after that, I wash my face. After using around 3 ampoules, I apply lotion and cream to moisturise my skin. I always use the same products and I buy 2 of each for when I go out of town or abroad. Just the luggage for my night routine is quite heavy (Laughs).I try to take care and do my routine even when I'm tired and sleepy, but when it's really bothersome, I'll omit the ampoule.You're MC-ing a radio right now, is there anything you want to try with your listeners in the future?
JEONGHAN Right now, I'm listening to students' concerns and consultations, doing corners… The planning for the corner was done really well and what I wanted to do was materialised, so I'm very satisfied with it. I hope I'm able to have comfortable conversations with my listeners.

Q&A with JOSHUA from ELLE Japan!

What’s your night beauty routine?
JOSHUA After thoroughly removing my makeup with oil, I wash my face with a foam cleanser. I first apply toner, then that is followed by vitamins, serums, and lotions. When I'm very dry, then I also use a facial pack. There are times where I'm tired and l'll use a cleansing wipe instead, but I always make sure to apply toner and lotion.What are some Japanese songs that JOSHUA, who is good at guitar, wants to try covering?
JOSHUA Recently, I came to know about DISH|/'s song, [Cat], and I want to try covering it. The vocalist is also an actor right? That's so cool, and I came to like it even more. But I think it's a difficult song to do a guitar cover for. Recently, I don't have much time and I haven't been able to play guitar much, but when I have time, I definitely want to play again. If I get the opportunity to show it, please listen to it a lot.

SEVENTEEN's first photoshoot with Anan was in June 2017. When we told him it's been six years since then, JEONGHAN responded emotionally, "Really, time does go by fast." The previous photoshoot with all 13 members present had a bright and lively atmosphere; this time being JEONGHAN'S first solo cover with us, he was relaxed throughout the photoshoot but proceeded with an earnest attitude."Every magazine photoshoot has been a new experience and interesting. Wearing clothes I've never worn before and seeing the photos taken of me are both very fun. I enjoy imagining CARAT's happiness when they see the magazine and I like seeing how they're enjoying when the magazine is actually released."

Last year, they accomplished a Dome Tour as a group. Furthermore this year, they held a fanmeeting in Kyocera Dome Osaka and Tokyo Dome."It's been five years since our Japan debut and as you'd expected, standing on Dome's stage was the most memorable moment. Before we made our Japan debut, we started with a Hall Tour, then an Arena Tour; like that, our venue gradually got bigger and we made it to Dome. Dome is a dream stage and a goal for a lot of artists. To me, Dome is precious in the sense that it's wholly "a place where we can meet a lot of CARATs". For us, we want to meet as many CARATs as possible and fortunately, there are a lot who want to meet us too. Dome is a place where both of our wishes can come true.”Although it didn't happen at their first Dome show, the [prohibition of] cheers were lifted this year for their fanmeeting in May."The loudest moment of the fanmeet this time was when we left the final stage and our next Japan Tour was announced as a surprise (laughs). Actually at the time, we waited behind the stage without returning to our waiting room. While listening to everyone's screams from backstage, l was thinking it'd be nice if we could hear the same intensity of cheers at our upcoming Dome Tour (laughs)."

An ordinary street becomes a photo spot with long lines.

When mentioning JEONGHAN, he’s known to turn the location of the photos he takes every time he comes to Japan into a must-visit photo spot for his fans."I'm already grateful for the fact that fans would go to the places I take my photos and take the same photos as me. This has also become a fond memory of my activities in Japan. I'll continue to take pictures of pretty locations that I find, and provide those photo spots (to CARATs)."He has also visited SEVENTEEN's popup store without anyone knowing and surprised CARATs after the fact."I have always liked roaming around and since I've been studying Japanese, that day I wanted to use Japanese on the streets so I walked around Shibuya and Harajuku without translating staff. That's how I found our popup store and I thought since I was already there that I'd take a peek, so l entered (laughs). I really just stopped by on a whim because I was in the mood and thought it'd be amusing. There might have been fans who recognized me, but they pretended otherwise."It left us with a lasting impression that he found time in between the shooting to practice Japanese with the translator, just like during the previous photoshoot too. "I'm studying but I'm not improving much. I'll continue to study Japanese," he said with modesty while showing his eagerness."When I'm in Japan, I become happy and feel like I have room to breathe. Even if my schedule is packed, I feel a kind of comfort. But if my stay was a little longer, I might think "I want to work more!" (laughs). From going out for food with the members to going to the onsen, I'm able to have time to relax; so as l've thought, time spent in Japan is nice."

There’s still a lot of things he wants to do in Japan."I want to travel to places I haven't gone to yet. I also want to go to Sapporo again. Previously, I went in the time between spring and summer but I've heard that the winter fireworks are pretty, so I want to go again during snowfall."For JEONGHAN whose motto is to "live like the flow of water", having met SEVENTEEN and CARATs feels like destiny."Perhaps not for a lot of people but when I think back on my life, I come to believe that fate is real. By the time I noticed, I became a member of SEVENTEEN and was standing in Dome with CARATs. I think all of that is because fate guided me here. I think fate guided me, sometimes harshly and sometimes soothingly, to this very moment."

Reflected in his eyes is the dream that everyone’s little [moments of] happiness continues.

To him, the members and CARATs have become a major driving force in the continuation of his activities."More so recently, I've realized how big that source of power is. It's extremely reassuring that my members are always beside me so that l'm never alone. Plus, during times like today where I'm alone for a photoshoot, it gives me strength that I'm a member of SEVENTEEN. This is why I'm able to do my best. CARATs and SEVENTEEN taught me how to live life to the fullest; they're an irreplaceable existence [in my life]. And I know exactly how much of a happiness that is. If I were not SEVENTEEN, I can't begin to imagine what I could be doing right now. Debuting as a member, meeting CARATs and having the opportunity for a lot of activities, I am truly happy to be a part of SEVENTEEN."Having achieved the dream of standing on Dome's stage with everyone, what new dream reflects in their eyes next?"I have a modest dream. I'm happy now so my biggest wish is for us and our fans to continue being happy. I want the people around me to be happy; I want them to be (emotionally) healthy and enjoy what they love to their heart's content. For myself, I want to experience a lot of things. There's a limit to the time that a person has so while I'm still energetic, [I want to] travel to various countries; seeing Japan from one end to another doesn't sound bad. As SEVENTEEN, I want to be a (physically) healthy group. I believe we can present good energy only if we are healthy in mind and body, so it's important for us to be healthy ourselves. Health and happiness-these two things are the most important, so let's continue to walk together with happiness in our hearts!"

It's your second appearance this year with <Vogue>. Did you enjoy the shoot? I'm curious if there's any [clothing] item that caught the fashion-loving Hoshi's eye.
I liked every outfit that had red as a point. I was especially drawn to the tight red top. It even went well with matching sunglasses. All throughout summer, I enjoyed wearing a light shirt or a long sleeve tshirt with shorts that went a little past my knees, but I could really feel the new season [with these outfits].Your individual activities been catching people's eye lately. Recently, you appeared on the entertainment show <Bro and Marble> with Joshua and struggled [with missions] alongside Lee Seunggi, Yoo Yeonseok, Ji Seokjin, and other "hyungs".
Though I'm the happiest when singing and dancing, recently l've been enjoying showing others a side of me that only I know. Sometimes I show a side of me l didn't even know I had.

I'm drawn to the photos on your Instagram that show you enjoying the little things in life. Are you the type to consider recharging time as valuable?
That's right. I get good sleep and eat good food and try to just have a normal day. Sometimes I watch movies or go see exhibitions- when I enjoy the cultural life I couldn't enjoy before, I get excited again. And naturally I can clear my head.If you were given 1 hour to ask someone of your choice anything you want [who and what would you ask]?
Personally I really like Justin Bieber, but I'd like to talk with Woozi. Woozi likes to explain things, and we communicate really well. He's an artist who inspires me as much as Justin Bieber does.You enjoy food too. What's your soul food?
Kimchi! There's so many people around me who are better at cooking than me, so I haven't felt the need to seriously attempt cooking yet, but I'm going to properly try it later. I plan to first master kimchi stew so that I can usefully use [that skill] anytime, anywhere.

You've been busy preparing for the concert right?
Starting with Tokyo, SEVENTEEN's Japan tour is tightly packed with Saitama, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka till the end of the year. We always do our best to create a concert CARATs can be happy and have fun at. As the number of songs receiving love increases, we're able to create a more meaningful setlist, which makes me enjoy the performances even more. I really enjoyed the concert preparation process that started at Gocheok Sky Dome for the Seoul concert in July.You bring a unique tiger spirit/energy on stage. What do you often say to yourself to hype yourself up?
'Let's go!' is something I often shout to myself.From SEVENTEEN's songs, which one do you think captures your vibe and energy the most?
Our 4th mini album ‹Face the Sun>'s title song 'HOT: I enter with the line "Face the sun, set it on fire", and I really love the passion and hot energy poured into that song.

SEVENTEEN's firepower is always hot. The recently released 10th mini album <FML> has sold 6.2 million and became the first K-POP album to record the highest sales for a single album. Are you the type to be encouraged by these types of tangible numbers?
I'm so thankful, and it gives me so much strength. Honestly, just the word 'thank you' doesn't feel like enough. I'm happy enough doing what I love, doing what I want, and doing what I'm confident in, but the fact that those efforts lead to actual results makes me even happier. Life isn't always going to be an uphill path, so I want to thoroughly enjoy walking through the present.SEVENTEEN will be back with their 11th mini album in October. What clue can you give to those curious about your new album?
Woozi is a genius (laughs).You're a dreamer. What is your most consistent dream?
I want to be with SEVENTEEN, the members, and CARATs as long as possible. That's my biggest dream. I'm going to achieve that dream while empowering the people I love.

Q1. What do you look forward to whenever you come to Japan?
Eating good food. I'm always looking forward to eating whenever I go to Japan.Q2. What's a personal big news of yours for the year?
For this year would be the new single PSYCHO and the drama Exclusive Fairy Tale.Q3. What's the most memorable thing that CARATs have said to you recently?
There's a lot but the most memorable was; "thanks to Jun, my heart has calmed down and I was able to return back to university to start studying again." I was very happy to hear that because it means that they received good influence from me and were able to do what they wanted to do; it also gave me a lot of power.Q4. How have you been spending your days off recently?
I'm a homebody without trying (laughs). Like if I find a yummy looking recipe, l'd give it a go at home. I also go out if my friends invite me, but I am generally at home otherwise.Q5. What of the food you ate recently do you like the most?
When we went to Japan, I went to eat abura soba; it was so good, I asked our manager to give me the name and address of the restaurant. At first I got it delivered to our green room. Afterwards, Mingyu insisted on eating at the restaurant so we went together. Before we went, we searched on the internet how to eat it and it said mixing in yuzu pepper and garlic would be yummy. When I added yuzu pepper and garlic into spicy abura soba, I was shocked at how delicious it was!

Q6. What do you think you'd be doing if you weren't SEVENTEEN?
Even if not as Seventeen, I think I would probably be working in the entertainment industry. Since I was active as a child actor, maybe I would have been an actor in China while being a fan of Seventeen (laughs). I might have been active as JUN the actor in China while spreading the words, "do you know there's a really cool group in Korea called Seventeen?"Q7. How do you get over struggling and feeling down?
I blow away depressive thoughts by eating delicious food. I think the human physiological measure of happiness has a lot to do with the stomach, so we feel down when we are hungry and we feel happy when we eat something delicious and are full. Sometimes I post what I eat on SNS so I hope everyone will copy me and be happy together!Q8. Which member makes you feel the most like an older brother when you're together?
Hm, probably Vernon? Vernon has an intriguing way of thinking. If you let him talk about things that he's interested in-be it good food, a musical thing, or about a piece of work-he'll speak with great passion and share a lot of fascinating ideas. When I'm listening to him, I become more like an older brother.Q9. Then which member spoils you like a younger brother when you're together?
It's Seungkwan. Even the members say it often, that the one who reacts the best to my mischief is Seungkwan (laughs). That Seungkwan is like an older brother, so if anything, I'm more like the younger brother.

I want to be an artist that will be loved for a long time.Right before the interview, Jun showed us a playful side: "Because it's an interview with Ginger, now I want to drink ginger ale (laughs). That was a joke!" This will be his first time to adorn a solo cover for a Japanese magazine. We took a closer look at an honest side of Jun who has a beauty known as "Mainland's Miracle".First off, please tell us how you feel about your first solo cover of a Japanese magazine.
It's a really good thing! (in Japanese). Being on the cover by myself for Japan made me really happy. I hope CARATs will take it as a present.The theme for this time is "a transparent beauty" (meaning so crisp and ephemeral that you can practically pass through it). What do you consider beautiful about yourself?
My beauty... is everything (laughs). No, that was a joke! I think I look beautiful because Carats love me. I am as beautiful as much as the love I receive.Last year you experienced Tokyo Dome for the first time as a group and came back to Tokyo Dome this year. What kind of place is Tokyo Dome?
In a sense, Tokyo Dome is the promised place between Carats and us. There was a time when current events made it very difficult for us to stand at Tokyo Dome. Originally we should have been able to perform at Tokyo Dome sooner, but we ended up making everyone wait a long time. We are grateful that Carats waited for us. That's why Tokyo Dome is a place where we were able to fulfill our promise. It's the promised place between Carats and Seventeen, and it's the place that granted our wish.And thus, the scale of your Dome Tour increased this year. Please tell us your thoughts when you found this out.
I was happy because more dates and locations means we are able to meet that many more Carats. l hope that we can perform in even bigger venues in the future so that we can meet even more fans. That's why, I am very happy to meet a lot of Carats on our Dome Tour.

You are active recently as a solo artist. What kind of solo performance do you wish to show later on?
There are a lot! There are still a lot of concepts that I haven't yet shown for the stage. I've performed ballads, pop songs, and sexy kinds of performances before but there are a lot of things I want to do-such as a passionate stage, a cute concept, a refreshing sort, etc. At the same time, I did a lot of acting when I was younger but it was as a child actor; I myself am very interested in my acting as an actor as I am now.Your drama performance also became a hot topic. Do you have something you'd like to challenge on your own in the future?
I was really happy that I was able to act in a drama again after a long time. The JUN that stands on stage was also influenced greatly with each drama shooting, so the me who stands on stage also grew a lot. I felt the good effects. There are a lot of genres I want to try in the future (laughs). I also want to do movies. Like a piece with fantasy elements.Other than my activities, I also want to do more archery. I got hooked on it when I tried it out on ISAC. There are a lot of archery cafes in Korea, so sometimes I go to do archery. In Chinese dramas and movies, there are a lot of scenes of shooting arrows while riding horses. It's really cool. When I was a child actor, I rode a lot of horses for shootings but it'd be more interesting if I could wield a bow at the same time. So I hope to continue archery in the future.

SEVENTEEN is really popular in Japan right now. When you debuted in Japan in 2018, could you imagine the sort of activities you'd be doing now?
The things we have realized now are things that none of us had imagined back then. But when one dream is achieved, another new dream is born; right now, we are still making our way to the new dream. It's a rinse and repeat of fulfilling one dream and then running full speed at another. Additionally, isn't it often said that "everything starts from a dream"?
Nothing will begin if there's no dream, so I hope to realize a lot more dreams going forward.Yume de yume de yum de deatta ♪ (Seventeen 1st JP EP, Dream)SEVENTEEN is a large group of 13 members. What moment makes you glad of being 13?
A while ago, we had our monthly meeting. I was glad that we have 13 members at that moment because we were able to order various types of dishes (laughs). Sukiyaki, takoyaki, malatang, dak galbi jjim... we all shared an array of food. In addition, if there are members who will play billiards, there will be members who sing and members who start gaming. It's not lonely because 3/4 members will naturally gather at each spot.Hitori janai ♪ (Seventeen 3rd JP single)Hahaha!But there are a lot of times when I get food by myself. Finding yummy restaurants is my hobby so when I find a good restaurant from the internet, l'd go first by myself and if it's in fact delicious, l'd invite someone next. Even in Japan, I often go eat by myself; the members and our dance teacher will ask me, "why won't you take us with you?" But after I go by myself and if it's good, we go together.Please tell us your next goal as SEVENTEEN.
We still have a lot of goals as a group. We want to spread our name so people who don't know Seventeen yet, will. In the past, we had the opportunity to open for Cho Yong-pil and I was really shocked. Three generations of a grandpa, grandma, mother, father, and their children, came to the concert. They watched the concert really happily; it felt as if they went to a festival as a family. Seeing that, I thought it'd be nice if we could become like that too.
I don't know if it'd be 10 years later or 20 years later but Carats will have their children, their mothers will be our fans too, and l'd be happy if the three generations of them could have fun with us. I want us to be an artist that will be loved for a long time, like Cho Yong-pil. Our main goal is for us to be happy and for Carats to be happy too.

When you’re in front of the camera, what do you think about the most?
Rather than thinking, I leave it up to my feelings. I found that if I think too much, I end up not being able to do anything. When I’m in front of the camera, I try to focus on the moment.So you leave it up to your instincts?
That's right. I've always been stronger in the real thing than the practice. The tension/nervousness of the real thing is a big help to me.According to yourself, what role do you take in SEVENTEEN?
The maknae with no likes or dislikes. All the members comfortably talk to me and joke with me. [Our members] tend to have a lot of conversations. And the strong maknae? I'm the type to be full of energy on stage, but I try to maintain that energy for a long time rather than having it shine for just a moment. Should I say I don't get tired and I stick it out to the end?Now that you're in your 9th year, what are you concerned with the most?
As time goes on, l've been thinking, feeling, and focusing on 'responsibility' more. I want to take responsibility and learn and experience things one by one, and by next year or so when time has flown a bit more, I want to better show more of who I am.

You debuted at a really young age. Have you found a way to control and love yourself?
I don’t know about ‘control’. Because sometimes I think ‘Was that immature?’ or ‘I still have a long ways to go’. But I think I’ve found ways to love myself. I’ve come to ‘acknowledge’ myself. Whether I’ve made a mistake or something good happens, I just acknowledge it like how it is. You can’t really lie to yourself. Recently, rather than turning my back to myself or falsifying the truth, I just acknowledge how it is. I cherish it, scold myself when necessary.. I think I’ve come to see who I am properly.What's something you repeat to yourself? Is there something you tell yourself to get strength?
What comes to mind is "You worked hard, Chan". | tell myself this a lot. On a hard day of practice, when I'm on the way to the car, after schedule... I tell myself this without realizing it. "You worked hard, Chan. Let's go. Let's go sleep now."It's like self-care. And you're acknowledging [your hard work].
Seems like it. I wasn't aware, but that is what it is.Is there a moment when you think 'I'm glad I picked this job'?
When I'm on stage. I think that's when. I love how immersed I can be on stage. The staff and members make it possible for me to pour everything out and be immersed on stage, so I love being able to play in that [setting].What is the biggest headline for 25-year-old Dino?
This year, it's nothing but 'Let's show who I am' 'Show who I really am'. I prepared my first solo mixtape, and I want to release it this year no matter what. I want to reveal more of my thoughts and character.

You're the type to put in great effort and put in everything you are, aren't you?
I do things even when no one tells me to. I do more than what needs to be done. But I think because I did that, l've earned a lot. Especially when it comes to singing. When I compare past albums to current ones, I feel like l've improved little by little, and I find that fun so I keep doing it.What do you feel the most lately?
Honestly, I am genuinely happy. Right now, I really am.I'm shocked. You brought up the word 'happiness' instantly.
This year was really busy and hectic. But I feel like it was made up of the best moments. And I feel like we (the members) and I will do well in what's to come. 'Super' and 'God of Music' received so much love, and the solo mixtape l've awaited since my trainee days is releasing. All of that makes me so happy.Out of 100, what would you rate your levels of satisfaction?
100? No. I'll go with 99.Why did you take off one point?
Because nothing is perfect, so I should leave one point out. But I really am so happy lately. There's always something I'm concerned or worried about, but lately I feel like I can overcome that.

Something small you never want to let go?
When I mess around with the members during our breaks. I think the most fun thing is when we practice altogether and take breaks after practice, l talk with the members and mess around with them.All the members of SEVENTEEN seem to say in agreement that meeting each other is the greatest fortune in their life.
That's something we talk about ourselves very often. I feel like we all think 'I hope this feeling lasts a long time'. It's like we can't even hate each other even if we wanted to. We're all completely different people, but sometimes we want to do things like another member, or be more like their personality. Other times we think 'Why do they do that?' but at the end of the day, we think 'I can never hate these 12 guys'.Lyrics from a SEVENTEEN song that comes to mind that you want to tell CARATs?
There's the lyrics 'A place you can cry, a place you can come to' in a song called 'Home'. That's what comes to mind right now.You are such a warm-hearted person, Dino.
Am l? I feel like I hear that I work really hard the most.We can't leave out SEVENTEEN's content. Your 'Picheolin' character in 'God of Light Music' was very impressive.
I felt like thinking 'It's a different character' made it more comfortable for me. When we filmed it, I trusted the production crew and threw out some adlibs and while it was amazing that they liked it, I could only think of how embarrassed/shy I was when watching it.Like your prominent character, you have a lot of [prominent] sayings too.
I like the saying 'You know you're gonna give up, so just try it anyway. If it's something that moves your heart'. Even though it's something I made up. I like sayings like this. (laughs)
t/n: He mentioned in a live a while ago, it's inspired by the saying "We live knowing we are going to die" so it's like the similar meaning.

You're so consistent.
Yes I am.You're halfway through your 20s now. How do you want the rest of your 20s to go?
I want to stay healthy, do a lot of things like I do them now, and live while dreaming. But even when I'm in my 30s and 40s, I want to be someone who always takes one step closer to their dreams.What is your dream in 10 years?
If I could have my way, I want to do my first solo concert. That's what l imagine when I'm 35.Plans you achieved and didn't achieve this year?
The plan I followed through the most is releasing my mixtape. One regretful thing is not studying foreign languages.Since you say you like learning, wouldn't you be able to master it quickly?
I actually have some talent with languages. (laughs)
All I think about is sharing my heart with even more CARATs and actively broadening our music and choreography.As we end the interview, say a word to yourself.

Detailed, gentle, delicate… we attempt to delve into people’s souls, to understand their feelings at different times.Accompanying the release of JUN's fourth solo, Psycho, there were some surprised voices. Through his expression, acting and lyrics, JUN was breaking through the image he'd portrayed before the song's release. "Living as a psycho" - as the lyrics start, thoughts he'd hidden away surface.Can be crazy, can be kind; JUN accepts fans' descriptions of his appearance and personality. To him, being viewed as "pure" and "gentle", and other images, brings with it the goodness of being seen.Still, he gives himself personal space to live and think, and after the consecutive release of Limbo and Psycho, he has opened the door to this space, allowing people to see his true self. Psycho is about him reflecting on himself: even if you're different, you don't have to worry; everything creates your own "uniqueness".These songs are like a mirror. The person in the mirror has different thoughts at different times, and the gradual opening of his heart is obvious. In the mirror, sometimes, he is K-pop boy group SEVENTEEN's member JUN; at other times, he showcases his talents in variety shows, dramas and on stage; and even more of the time, he is just being himself.Below, from JUN's perspective, we show his story.

CHAPTER 1: THE BOY ACCOMPANIED BY A DREAM

I'm someone who dreams a lot. When you dream a lot, you gain a skill I think is unique - as long as I wake up immediately after sleep, I'll remember every dream I dreamt.No matter whether or not you believe it, sometimes dreams do indeed have ties to reality. Many years ago, while I was a schoolboy, I dreamt that I completed something by working together with a lot of people, and my friends and family crowded around me to celebrate. This dream was so real, upon waking up I started to think whether or not something big would happen to me soon. At the time, I was young, so anything I could think of had to do with my studies. After that, I went to Korea as a trainee, and then debuted as SEVENTEEN. When I thought back to this dream, I was quite surprised. Sometimes dreams are really quite magical.When you've dreamt too much, you can't avoid being surprised, sometimes. Once, during Ghost Festival, I dreamt that I was running in my neighbourhood with my childhood friends from Wushu, and behind, a shadow was crazily chasing after us. We used all our energy to keep running forward, trying to get rid of the shadow that we couldn't see clearly. Before I could escape, I woke up.The magical thing was, when I woke up, that friend l'd dreamt of had sent me a message, saying they'd had the same dream. Now, when I look back at it, it seems like a myth, but sometimes you can't explain dreams: just look at them as entertainment.
I've even dreamt that I drove a truck with a friend. This was interesting. In real life, I've never driven anything so big. But whether or not this dream will come true depends on whether l'd really go and get a driving license to drive trucks.Another reason I say dreams have links to reality is because I think a lot of the time, life is like a dream that you don't want to wake up from.To take a recent example, we had two days of concerts on the 21st and 22nd of July: SEVENTEEN TOUR FOLLOW TO SEOUL. Those two days, I was especially happy. To be honest, I think I was more emotional on the 21st. I’m always like this: if it’s been a long time since we had a concert, when the long-awaited concert comes, I won’t know how to properly divide my energy - or, to put it another way, my body is still learning when to let go, and when to conserve. My way of dealing with it is always to give my all, but this means that the first day is always more tiring than the second. Although it’s tiring, my heart is happy.

Sometimes I suspect saying "I'm tired" is not quite appropriate. I remember during those two days of concert, we went to the stadium to rehearse in the morning. Even though there was quite a while until that afternoon's concert, I could see many fans standing at the entrance, waiting. It happened that at the time, Seoul was really hot, and standing outside even for a little while felt suffocating. Whenever I think of fans standing outside for long I don't feel good, but I also feel really touched - people really do work hard to come to concerts just to see people they like. Some people even fly over from different countries just to see us for a few hours, and even though they have to stand for really long outside in sweltering temperatures, they don't mind.A lot of the time I think this is the luckiest thing that has happened to me; so lucky, it’s like a too-good dream. This sounds like I’m saying it just to be polite, but it’s the actual truth.For this time’s concert in Seoul, there were many changes. We changed the set list, and the time we spent preparing was way beyond our imagination, even for the performance team. Even on the rehearsal the day before the concert, we were still working on details, and always dealing with changes that cropped up. Because of this, time got even tighter. Thank goodness, at the end, we still managed to successfully finish the performance.Some happinesses strike you suddenly. I experienced this in this concert; I can't use words to describe this happiness, but it came from my heart. Maybe it's because I don't often see fans, so when the concert started, seeing the Caratbongs light up in front of me, I felt something stirring in my heart - like love was engulfing me.After the Seoul concert had ended, we had to continue preparing for October's comeback... this year, it's like we're constantly working. I quite like this kind of schedule - this year is more meaningful and fulfilling than last year, because there's more opportunities to meet fans face-to-face.

CHAPTER 2: EMBRACING ALL SIDES OF YOURSELF

This year, many happy things happened. To look at my own projects, after releasing Limbo in the second half of last year, 1 released another solo, Psycho, this July. If Limbo shows beauty in terms of dance, makeup and hair, and expression, then Psycho shows "uniqueness". You can think of the two songs being linked: they were both made from the same starting point, but the ending is different. Limbo is to invite you to enter my world; in Psycho, you find that once you've entered, there's a special presence. This uniqueness isn't something that's deliberately expressed, but the idea that everyone, once entering their own world, is the most unique being.
In real life, you realise you are different from others, no matter whether this is in thinking, the way you act, or your interests. These aren't things to worry about; don't reject your uniqueness. Accept yourself. Love all parts of yourself.After the release of Psycho, I saw many comments that l'd changed. This is probably because in the MV, I showed some sides of myself that were even more "crazy" than usual. I don't hope that this changes everyone's impression of me. I think it's not about "changing", but about expressing something: everyone has different sides to them than the one they express to others. You don't have to accept them, but they exist; and their existence makes you multi-dimensional. This is the uniqueness I want to express.These two solos are linked. I said previously that I want to use them to develop my world view; this is the Easter egg l've put in my work, and hope that I can continue it in the future. I was preparing for Psycho during the start of the year, while we were still resting. One day, I got bored, so I thought, instead of resting, I'll go to the company and write a song with the production team. That's how this song came into being.Writing songs and lyrics needs inspiration. I usually find this from my Notes app on my phone. Because I like reading novels, sometimes, while reading, I'll switch to my Notes app, to write down some thoughts. I do the same when listening to songs. Sometimes, I'll also record my thoughts with images. For example, a while ago, on the plane, I saw a film called To the World with You. In the film, parents brought their child on a thrill-seeking adventure to the world to document his growth. I was quite emotional after watching that film.A while ago, Exclusive Fairytale started airing. It's a drama I took part in two years ago. I acted as the male lead, Ling Chao, whose personality is honestly really different to mine. This meant that while filming, I was always thinking about how to suppress my true personality. How do you control that persona? - I kept thinking about this.After it was aired, I asked for the opinions of some of my friends. I wanted to know what I could improve from others' perspective. In terms of expectations and pressure, I'm actually okay. My personality is like this - I think going with the flow is better. For example, if there's a project of mine I really like, I'll not let myself stay in that happiness for a long time.

When did I get this personality? I don't remember. Maybe it's a habit I picked up from growing up? - even though this kind of saying is kind of old-fashioned. I'm the same when it comes to difficult times - I don't have obvious resistance to difficulty anymore. It's the opposite: I think difficulties are necessary. When I was young, I studied Wushu, and was a child actor; after that, I left my home to train and then debut. Every item in this list relied on experiencing difficulties to grow up faster. To look back on it now, everything was about accepting, enduring, then finally enjoying difficulties. I've passed every stage that requires acceptance of difficulties and know that to achieve some goals, you have to experience some difficulties, so the bitterness has become a bit sweeter.Maybe all of this is unconsciously shaping my personality. Speaking of personality, nowadays people are getting more interested in using MBTI to understand themselves and others. The last time I did this test was on GOING SEVENTEEN, but that wasn't me doing the test; the other members did it based on their impression of me. I didn't do it again after that, because I don't think it can reflect your true self, even though that is its intention. A lot of the time, people want to use external factors to understand themselves, but that wouldn't be a clear reflection. When you do personality tests, instead of choosing answers based on how you are, you might choose based on how you want to be. Thus, the final result might not be your true self. This isn't a bad thing; everything starts from "wants", so it's likely your final result will be true for yourself sometime in the future. This is quite interesting.Work teaches you many things. In work, the most beneficial skill l've learnt is language. I later realised learning another language is really so important; it gives you more ways to express yourself, and allows others to understand what you want to say from a different angle. I didn't pick up Korean fast; in the beginning, in language class, ! understood less words than my classmates. However, because normally I liked to mimic my teammates and Korean friends' tones while speaking, my oral results were better than my writing.Probably because of language, I’ve created many jokes; while watching GOING SEVENTEEN, fans may realise this. I think this is related to how I’m a foreigner. Sometimes, I’ll say some things I think aren’t that funny, but this will make my teammates laugh, so it’ll be funny. Even though I don’t understand why it’s funny, I hope to be able to make them laugh; being able to make others happy is a happy thing.If you say that happiness comes from a reason, when it comes to fans, that reason becomes transparent: no matter what I do, they give positive affirmation. This kind of love is passionate and sincere. Even if I don't do anything, they are selfless with praise, for example in terms of appearance and personality. "Pure", "beautiful", "gentle"... I don't reject this kind of description. Fans are able to see these sides of you and unreservedly say that they like you; this is enough to be grateful for. Many fans feel that I'm like a cat.This is especially evident in fan signings- people get me to mimic cats’ expressions, and sometimes the headbands are cat-themed. Some fans even let me see their cats’ pictures, and they’re really cute.Whenever these moments, surrounded with love, appear, I think a good dream is approaching. Like my dream many years ago: in that dream, it was like I was wearing shoes with springs on them; whenever I jumped, I moved 10m. When you jump, you think the scenery far away is clearer, like if you just reached out, you could touch the soft, fluffy clouds. It was really relaxing. Afterwards, I always remembered this dream, along with the happiness I felt. In these moments with love, it's like I return to that dream again.

Finally, please enter NYLON’s chatroom with JUN.In your opinion, what are the similarities and differences between Limbo and Psycho?
JUN (The king of dry humour is here) In terms of differences, both are released by JUN, and the whole team for Psycho is the same as that for Limbo. In terms of appearances, it's quite different; in Limbo, 1 have white hair, but in Psycho, I'm black-haired. At first, I was thinking whether or not I could have my hair gradually turn from white to black in Psycho, but because I dyed my hair too many times last year, 1 didn't end up going ahead with it.Everyone is really looking forward to SEVENTEEN's comeback in October. Do you have anything you can share with us about it?
JUN If I spoil it, I'll be fined, haha. I can share one thing, though: because we'll be having our comeback in autumn, it'll be an album that is well-suited to the autumnal atmosphere.In your daily life, what's the thing you're best at doing?
JUN: Cooking my signature dishes, I think. Especially braised pork knuckle. I think no matter how I make it, it won't taste bad.CARATs know you really love Liuzhou snail noodles. When did you start liking this?
t/n: Liuzhou snail noodles are a type of noodles that are really smelly, so for many, it's an acquired taste.
JUN When I was young, I really liked Guilin noodles. When I got to Korea, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't find it. So by coincidence, I discovered Liuzhou snail noodles, and once I tried it, I couldn't stop [eating it]. Just now, (in the makeup room), I ate it too.Have any other members been influenced by you to like these noodles too?
JUN JEONGHAN and MINGYU. While we were filming IN THE SOOP, without telling them what it was, I let them try it. After they ate it, they said it was really delicious.When you're resting, do you plan any activities?
JUN If I'm on holiday, I'll sleep until I naturally wake up. However, if that day, a friend asks me whether I want to go archery or bungee jumping, I'll usually say, "OK, let's go!" If not, after I wake up, I'll eat and read a novel, and that'll be my whole day. Sometimes, there are exceptions; for example if I see anything I want to try. In Korea, I saw an ad for railroad speedcars in the forest. At the time, I told my friends, "If we have time, we must go." If there's this kind of thing, l'll deliberately carve out time to go experience it.Do you save your/members' stickers? What stickers do you usually use?
JUN I really don't. Usually, I just use funny stickers, like this:

Right now, what would you say to "what I want" and "what I don't want"?
JUN "What I want" and "what I don't want" are definitely questions I'll answer differently at different times. Sometimes, both can be the same thing, like right now. What I want the most is to do my job well; I don't want to stop doing it, which is the same thing.Is there anything else you must do this year?
JUN Too many! Whether that's variety shows, stages, personally or with the group, I want to do so many things. But I think this year I don't have enough time, so I might delay them until next year.

Vol.2 Trip to Tokyo - Globally famous SEVENTEEN, Wonwoo and DK's first fashion serialization "Our New Closet!" The styling theme of this issue is "if the two came to Tokyo for fun". Since it's the first Men's Non-no issue of 2024 and close to Lunar New Year, we had them talk about their new year's resolutions!

WONWOO's Profile: SEVENTEEN's HipHop Team. He mesmerizes fans with the gap between his well-read, intellectual image and his deep-voice, rough rapper persona. Recently he's been immersed in studying Japanese and cameras! His dream is to go on a photography trip to a place with good scenery.DK's Profile: SEVENTEEN's Vocal Team. He holds a second name "happy virus" for his undisputed positive aura. His vocal abilities are the best in the K-pop scene, even to the point of being selected for a musical's main role. He's also Bally's brand ambassador; his proportions are amazing.

This issue's theme is "Trip to TOKYO" but if you two were to actually come to Tokyo on your private time, what would you like to do?WW I want to take photos of good scenery (jp). It seems fun to look for picturesque scenery with my favorite film camera and take pictures of each other with Dokyeom.DK In that case, how about we take a side trip to the hot springs? Wouldn't it seem to have a lot of nice scenery? I also want to wash Wonwoo's back.WW That's nice! Also, we can't forget about shopping. In a good way, Men's Non-no baited me into buying a lot on their "Tokyo Shopping Cruise" photoshoot. I'm having fun wearing the autumn and winter clothes I bought during that time, one by one.DK I love impulse purchases, so I think I am definitely fit to shop with Men’s Non-no (laughs). I want to go next time to look for summer and spring clothes!WW Maybe it's because I'm wearing the tweed outer that I bought on that photoshoot a lot, but I think the tweed jacket in this photoshoot is also really nice. It might be my favorite material right now.DK I'm wearing denim pants. It's got a wide width and a long length; it almost reaches the floor but I don't often wear this silhouette so it's new and nice. During the photoshoot, I was happy because it felt like my fashion sense was getting better! Seoul's winter is really cold so I'm often wearing down jackets; spring feels so far away.

When your photos are uploaded on Men’s Non-no’s SNS and Web, there’s always a great reception. In all honesty, are there moments when you see yourselves and think that you’re handsome?DK Rather than us ourselves, I think it's thanks to the photographers who take good photos of us, and the clothes that are prepared for us; but we also get surprised too! (laughs) We're cool, if I do say so myself.WW: I don't often feel myself to be cool when I look at my own photos but I have thought he was cool when looking at Dokyeom's photos!

Fine, we'll leave it at that!Next, since this will be Men's Non-no's first issue of 2024, please tell us of your goals for the new year.WW I think happiness is the most important thing (ip)! So while taking care of my health as first and foremost, personally I want to study harder in Japanese.DK Wonwoo is really studying hard in Japanese. He's actively speaking in Japanese to the point where sometimes I wonder if l've just passed a person from Japan when I walk past Wonwoo. It's surprising (jp)!WW Did I surprise you (jp)!DK Health is also number one for me. In 2023, our team achieved a lot of things so l want for us to bring out even greater results in 2024.WW Our first appearance on NHK Kohaku was also really fun. All the prominent figures were present and it felt like a big family gathering at the end of the year.DK We've always wanted to appear [on Kohaku] at least once; it was an honor to appear on the program of our dreams and very fun to work with various artists of different genres. I was able to participate in Yoasobi's collab stage and that was a lot of fun too. "Idol!" (while showing off the choreography). I was also watching my personal favorite "Atarashii Gakko!" and their stage and thinking that they were cool~. Precisely because we received a lot of inspiration, I just want to work harder on my own singing!WW I get that. But in those times, it's definitely CARATs' support that gives us the biggest push.DK Exactly that! I think Wonwoo studies Japanese hard because he wants to communicate more with CARATs in Japanese, and I want to present everyone with even better singing; that gives us motivation.Our editorial team also went to SEVENTEEN’s Follow to Nagoya show. It was a day when there was a livestream for a music program, and we were amazed by how CARATs came together to convey the venue’s hype across the screen. We often hear from you two that CARATs are amazing, and their power was really just that!WW Waa, I'm happy. I think there's trust for each other between us and CARATs. Just like how everyone is giving us their support, we are also giving them our's. That's why l'd like to tell them- if there's something they want to do this year, we're here for them so please definitely accomplish it.DK SEVENTEEN will always be right next to everyone, so no matter what happens, please be happy and do your best. We have a comeback scheduled for this year, so there will be lots of opportunities to meet!

With respect for each other, a miracle collaboration between the top artists of Korea and Japan. Naniwa Danshi Michieda Shunsuke and Seventeen Jeonghan, OUR FRIENDSHIP!I - It's not a stretch to call this the greatest collaboration in magazine history. The two who have been sending out love calls for each other have finally met. We'll bring you different forms of
"friendship" through a fashion story!

Scene 1: Schoolmate - What if both of them were seniors/juniors of the same school?Jeonghan's Profile: Born 1995.10.04. Debuted in Korea in 2015. Vocal Team member of Seventeen, a globally famous 13-member group who sold over 5mil copies in the first week of their mini album “Seventeenth Heaven” release and recorded a new K-pop sales record. He’s called an angel from his crisp and airy singing voice and visuals."I'm really happy to be able to have a photoshoot in Seoul with Shunsuke whom I've been rooting for from afar!"Michieda's Profile: Born 2002.07.25. Made his drama debut at 14yo and debuted as a member of Naniwa Danshi in 2021 with their debut single "Ubu Love", selling 900k copies in the first week of release. Since then, they've been consecutively holding first place on Oricon Weekly Singles ranking. His starring movie "Even if This Love Disappears From the World Tonight" also records 100k viewers in Korea, a record hit!"My page with Jeonghan whom I've admired forever will be a treasure for the rest of my life!"

Scene 2: Fashion Buddy - The two fashionistas who set out for a party together go in similar looks!What are their impressions of each other now having finally meet?Michieda Shunsuke became Men's Non-no's regular model in 2022. Naniwa Danshi's serialization started in the same year and now Men's Non-no cannot be without him. For a long time now, he's been happily telling staff at photoshoots of his love for Seventeen. On the other hand, the 2023 Sept/Nov joint issue that featured Wonwoo and DK on its cover sold out in a blink of an eye. Their serialization was decided immediately and a relationship between Seventeen and our editorial team rapidly established. News that Jeonghan wanted to express his gratitude after learning that Michieda went to Seventeen's concert reached our ears; this meant we had no choice but to arrange a photoshoot for them.Thank you for today. This has become a really special occasion as two widely famous artists meet for the first time in Seoul. How is it after meeting each other?
JH Thank you very much! (both claps) It was very fun and I was really happy because l've been anticipating this day.
MS This is the most nervous I've been recently... My heart's been pounding since leaving Tokyo; I was listening to Seventeen's songs the whole flight. When Jeonghan-san appeared in front of my eyes, I forgot all the Korean phrases I memorized to greet him (laughs). He asked me "why are you nervous~?" but it felt like, "because you are [existing] in front of me...!" (laughs)
JH I've been curious about Shunsuke ever since knowing that he came to our Tokyo Dome show last year. I even went to watch his starring movie "Even if This Love Disappears From the World Tonight"! | heard through my manager from the editorial team that Shunsuke listens to Seventeen at photoshoots, and I was so happy to know that he's supporting us. So it feels like I am also supporting him from afar because I only have a favorable impression of him; that's why l'm shocked that even a photoshoot between the two of us was possible. There were a lot of beautiful pictures taken.Does that mean you went to see Micchy's movie at the theaters yourself?
JH Yes! Shunsuke was a student in the movie and it gave me a very pure and slightly young impression of him, but once we've actually met, he's very tall and handsome.
MS (brings his hands together) no but, really... I have no words... When I watched their Tokyo Dome concert last year, I didn't think I would be having a photoshoot with Jeonghan-san. It feels like a miracle that this is my reality a year later, and I will treasure the memory of being able to do a photoshoot with my favorite artist for the rest of my life!
JH He's so cute! (laughs) It would have been good if we could've had the photoshoot when I'm in Japan but since I had to get surgery on my foot, I still really wanted to do this photoshoot. So I was very shocked when I heard that Shunsuke would come to Korea for me. Of course I was also really happy but I was first shocked that he would really be coming.
MS I also like Korea to the point that l've mentioned during Men's Non-no's photoshoots of wanting to do a location shooting in Korea, so instead I am happy that I was actually able to come. Right now I'm blonde for my drama "Mars: Zero no Kakumei" filming but if I'm going to be photoshooting with Jeonghan-san, then I wanted to face him in the prettiest condition so I retouched it right before coming to Korea.
JH Thank you for preparing to that extent. Your hair is really pretty!You confronted today with enthusiasm in your own ways so, how are your impressions of each other after actually communicating?
MS Really, he's soooooooooo kind. And also... he's very, very kind.You said the same thing twice (laughs)
JH !! (laughs)
MS I did say the same thing twice, huh? (laughs) I felt that way because he was really that kind to me; l've fallen even more in love. When we were taking the first photo, my body was frozen from being nervous; he told me "don't be nervous~" in Japanese and I was beyond grateful that he was trying to get me to relax. He's so beautiful up close, I can't look him in the eye…
JH That's for sure, he hasn't met my eyes at all (laughs). By the way, how did you first come to know of me?
MS It was my sister's influence. She's always listening to K-pop in the house so l was in an environment where I heard it often, and she also told me about a lot of different groups. Plus, I personally really like idols so naturally I enjoyed it together with her. It was at that time that I heard Seventeen's "Oh My!" and thought "this is it!"
JH Uwaa, that makes me happy! I really find Shunsuke so cute that l've been telling my manager "Shunsuke has the face of a baby" throughout the whole photoshoot (laughs). I mentioned the movie just before but when I was watching it, I thought it was amazing that [his acting] makes you slowly fall in love with Shunsuke's character. While watching over [his character], you get invested and start wanting to support him. Meeting him today, I thought the real Shunsuke also has that sort of charm.

Scene 3: Childhood Friend - Memories of a precious and close friend, memories they do not want to forget. The two become friends from a faraway time.JH Just watching Naniwa Danshi puts me in a happy and energetic mood!
MS I'm always overwhelmed by SEVENTEEN’s amazing range of expressions!A special interview overflowing with respect for each other!What impression do you have of each other's group?
JH Actually us and Naniwa Danshi have indirectly performed on the same stage on Japan's music program "CDTV Live! Live!" At that time, even though it was through a monitor, we watched their "Diamond Smile" and "Happy Surprise* [stage] in real time; 1 got the impression that their group was very bright and cute, with a lot of energy. It was as if energy was flowing out of the screen. Even meeting in person now, I keep thinking that he's cute (laughs).
MS I'm always thinking that Seventeen's range of songs is amazing. For example, there's a song like "Snap Shoot" with a lot of cuteness and then there's a song like "HIT" with a full on dance number. The song I listened to on the plane today, "Falling Flower" has an ephemeral melody and it also matches well [with Seventeen]. I was most overwhelmed by their large group formations in "24H"! Also "Going Seventeen* is really fun.
JH Eh! You watch that too?!
MS The gap from their usual performing demeanor is so great, it makes you think they're even different people.
JH Naniwa Danshi has their "cute, bright, energetic* charm as a group multiplied by the potential of each members' individual potential, so they're a group that makes you happy by watching them.
MS Our motto is to entertain our viewers and make them happy, so I'm touched that (the sentiment] was conveyed.
JH Shunsuke, "really, even now” (Michieda's line in "Ubu Love*)
MS WAAAaa!! I saw that Jeonghan-san danced Ubu Love and "Chukichuki Hurricane"!
JH It was a request from a fan during a fancall event. I only had 30 secs so I danced to it really hurriedly. I remember dancing as best as I could because I wanted to fulfill the request properly (laughs).As artists who stand at the forefront of Korean and Japanese entertainment, what do you think is meaningful about your jobs?
JH The best thing about this job is being able to give
energy to people through being an idol. I'm happy when CARATs tell me "I've been cheered up" "Thank you", and that's when I feel a sense of significance.
MS I feel the same way. Previously, there was a person in poor physical condition who told me "I felt better after watching Micchy" and that's when I really felt that I'm doing a job with a lot of meaning. Because there's no right answer to an artist's activities, there's also the difficulty in deriving an answer that we're satisfied with for ourselves. But for all that, this profession has an infinite amount of possibilities and is fun because the job can change depending on the person's individuality.Just now you mentioned that there's no right answer to the job, so what do you think is necessary for your own growth?
MS Watching other artists' performances, starting with my seniors, in person; and recently I've been thinking that it's really important to look at myself objectively.
There are idols all around the world, and not just in Japan. That's exactly why I am receiving inspiration and motivation from Korean entertainment. In my case, of course I am genuinely just a fan too but there's more to that, there's a lot that I can learn by delving deeper precisely because I'm a fan.
JH For me, it's to have a strong will of my own. There are other groups with a lot of abilities and strengths and while I receive a lot of inspiration from watching them too, l think continuing to work hard while maintaining my own individuality is above all else the most important. If I've decided to do something, I will keep at it even for years without quitting. And by working hard myself, there are also times when I've been told by CARATs, "I'm able to work hard because Jeonghan is working hard". That's why, for example- l've been studying hard in Japanese since before, I am steadily continuing my efforts even if I can't do it everyday because I'm busy.Jeonghan-san has been active for a long time since your group debut in 2015. It's been three years since Naniwa Danshi's debut. Do you remember what you were thinking and feeling back when you were at that period of your career?
JH I'm sure Shunsuke is super busy now and it was just as super hectic for me in my third year. In Korea, we debut after a trainee period; at the time, it felt more like an extension of our training and not that I’ve become an artist. It was a period where all thirteen of us thought that we had to work even harder from then on. For example, even if our schedule ended at 1AM, we all agreed that we’d keep practicing until 6AM no matter what and did it everyday; it was a period where we worked harder than hard despite everything and anything. We are where we are today after passing that period.

Micchy, what kind of artist and group do you want to be when you’re at Jeonghan-san’s age now (28yo)?
MS It’d be nice if Naniwa Danshi can be a group that can make people of other countries, across the ocean and not just Japan, happy. Personally, I’m working hard in my acting pursuits so whether it be Korean, i want to work hard in studying language like Jeonghan-san so that I can be an actor active in Asia. Also, it’d be nice if I could keep my beauty like Jeonghan-san but…!
JH Ahaha! Me too, I don’t know if it’ll be possible but I’d be happy if I could solo release a mini album and hold fanmeetings in Japan. I also want to appear on variety programs, which is why I’m doing all that I can in studying Japanese.
MS I want to go to the fanmeeting…!
JH Rather, I want you to appear as a guest~ (laughs)
MS (fist pumps)If there were another Men’s Non-no photoshoot with the two of you, what would you like to do?
MS I want to show him around Japan! I will do my best researching all the best spots.
JH That sounds good! We just met today but there’s so much more that we can do together. So no matter what it is, I think it’d be so fun so I definitely want to do it!In that case, what will be your pair name?
JH I've been calling you Shunsuke the whole time, but are you usually called Micchy?
MS Yes! But I'll be happy with anything.
JH My nickname is Hannie, so how about hanimichi?
MS Cute~! Also, please teach me Korean that I can use during MC segments!
JH Oh, that sort of stuff is good! My Japanese friend taught me "felt it in my bones" and "how spiffy!" because he thought if I said it during a concert, everyone would crack up; in fact, everyone did.
MS (bursts out in laughter)
JH But I'll teach Shunsuke something cuter (laughs). What we often say at our concerts is a combination of saranghae and our names into an original greeting. Sarang in saranghae means "love" so by replacing that with your name, you can use it with the nuance of "I love you". In my case, it's "hanihae~". So for Shunsuke, it'd be "michihae~" Try saying it!
MS That's so cute! In that case, I'll teach you a similar greeting in Kansai dialect. "I love you~"
JH Oo, Kansai dialect is nice. I'll definitely use it at our Osaka concerts!

In front of the camera, Mingyu is a confident performer; in our interview, his sincere interview answers [capture] the natural, easygoing version of him that is filled with the charm of youth.As Dazzling as a Diamond
We've often heard the people around us talk about being fans of the various members of SEVENTEEN and sharing their stories of interacting with other CARATs. It's easy to understand SEVENTEEN's infectious charm. What we didn't know, however, was that when we stepped into the studio and worked with SEVENTEEN's MINGYU for the first time, we would, even as people who work in the industry and meet many different idols, marvel at him. [Specifically,] his photogenic handsomeness, amazing physique, and professionalism.When we couldn't help but ask him about his thoughts on their most recent Macau concert,
Mingyu laughed, "This was my second time in Macau, and both times left me with wonderful memories. The concert atmosphere and our fans' reactions were great, and the food fits my tastes. Everything from the hotel, concert venue, and restaurants, to the tourist attractions was perfect."After the Macau concert, we realized that there were many CARATs around us. From that, we also truly felt the immense and unique charm of SEVENTEEN's various members (S.COUPS, JEONGHAN, JOSHUA, JUN, HOSHI, WONWOO, WOOZI, THE8, MINGYU, DK, SEUNGKWAN, VERNON, and DINO).

Growth and Accumulation
After getting scouted, Mingyu became a Pledis Entertainment trainee. Here, he would train for four years, learning the skills of performance before debuting as a member of SEVENTEEN (and their hip-hop unit) in 2015. Time flies, and SEVENTEEN has turned nine years old. When we asked about these nine years, he said, "These past nine years have gone by so quickly. Especially after we renewed our contracts, there was a big shift, and suddenly, it felt like time was moving even faster. There are many memorable moments, but recently we've been winning big prizes (daesangs) at award shows, which is very precious and [makes me] happy."On the topic of 2024, SEVENTEEN's schedule will be very busy. Starting at the end of March until May, SEVENTEEN will be holding three concerts in Korean and Japanese stadiums for their FOLLOW AGAIN tour. When we asked what other activities he wanted to do this year, Mingyu answered, "Firstly, we're working on our next album. I'm also working on my personal goals, and I hope that I can try many new things in the future, so I feel that right now is an opportunity for self-improvement."

Recently, we've been watching the variety show, Nana Tour, where 12 [of the 13] SEVENTEEN members spend seven happy days in Italy. The members had fun interactions and the programme was genuine and entertaining. When we asked Mingyu about the secret to communicating and getting along with his members, he immediately replied, "There really isn't any special secret."Then he smiled, "To me, everyone is family! When I went on Nana Tour with my members, we unfortunately couldn't go with S. COUPS. In the future, if there's an opportunity, I would love to travel with my members again. It will be extra fun because all of the members want to go to different places."When asked about traveling and vacations, he said, "I want to travel somewhere, even if my time there is short. I like to experience new places and step out of my comfort zone." We also asked him about whether he had any vacation plans or dream vacation spots, to which he answered, "It's winter in Korea right now, so I want to go somewhere warm, near the sea."

Constant Upgrading
We were all curious, as a member of a popular boy group, what Mingyu's work days were like and how he endured schedules that didn't even leave him time to take a breath. Surprisingly, Mingyu laughed, "On days without schedules, I honestly might be even more busy! Between lessons, working out, and getting coffee... the day is over."If he's so busy all of the time, we were also wondering how he relieves stress. Mingyu answers simply, "My fans probably already know this, but I usually work out [to relieve stress]." After speaking, Mingyu laughs. Outside of performances and the various things Mingyu does daily, he finds time to work out and attend group dance practices. [On the topic of dance practice], Mingyu earnestly says, "More than any other special training, we really put a lot of time into dance practice. I think dance cannot be replaced by any other kind of exercise. The more I work out, the harder I need to practice dancing. Whether it is to make my dance look more effortless or just to be better, we all place a lot of importance on dance practice."

Start of the Season and Favorite Fashion
DK The photos this time were also wonderful! The coat is cool and our duo's atmosphere is also great!The editorial team has trouble choosing photos because you two have such a large variety of poses.DK Yaaayyy! Although we are used to photoshoots, from our CD jackets and such, it's only become natural for us to try a lot of different poses after starting our serialization with Men's Non-no. I've come to enjoy fashion photoshoots even more.
WW I saw the photos, and the coats look great on us.We thought Wonwoo would look good in an item having both elegance and stoicism, so we chose this coat.
DK And me? What about me? (jpn)(laughs) DK looks good in a playful design that matches his characteristic happiness!DK Ooh~! I'm glad!!

This spring, what kind of outer do the both of you want?
DK Recently l'm into vintage jackets so l've been looking around, I'm especially wanting a blazer… I want Wonwoo hyung to buy it for me (laughs). Pretty please.
WW (laughs) I want to challenge an unusual design. Today I'm wearing a jacket made out of sweats material and in the winter, I tried wearing a loudly colored down!Which do you give preference to when you're shopping, items you like or items that match you?
DK I'm quite greedy so l end up buying both. The first thing to do is to challenge the items I'm interested in and if it turns out it doesn't match, I give it to my friends or members as a gift. I'm mostly aware of the items that match me without a doubt, so I buy those at the same time. By making challenges, it's an opportunity to discover new items that match me-which I think is important.
WW I just buy anything I want to buy. And that's because I feel like I use items that make me want it in the moment for longer! I give preference to gut feeling.What item up until now has left the strongest impression of being your most favorite item?
WW This was when I was still a trainee, when I was about 17~18yo. I bought a rider's jacket at a shopping center in Dongdaemun. It was an item of considerable price for me who was a student at the time, but I really wanted it. I really wore it for a long time.
DK When I was an elementary school student, I just really loved red. I always matched in red shoes and red bags. I still remember especially liking the red old skool vans.Do you still like red now?
DK I like blue (laughs).
WW Ahaha! Me too, I don't wear the rider's jacket anymore (laughs).Of course, you're only you because of all the things you once liked (laughs). This issue releases in the height of spring; what do you think of at the mention of spring/haru?
DK Specifically with Japan, we had a tour titled "HARU" (spring) in 2019, and that was during the sakura season. At the time, the members took a walk where the sakuras bloomed beautifully and then we got a delicious meal together afterwards; it's a wonderful memory.
WW I also remember that! We don't usually have the opportunity to hanami (cherry blossom viewing) together, so for all the more reasons why it's a precious memory. I want to go hanami! (jpn)

Do you two have anything you want to newly challenge this spring?
DK There's a thing called "body profile" in Korea where you build up your body perfectly and take a picture for commemoration. I want to try doing that.
WW Hahahahaha!
DK I want to really work out earnestly at least once in my life and record my utmost best moment. It's the first thing I thought of when asked what I want to newly challenge, but it'll probably not be this spring but something in the far future (laughs).
WW Recently the life goal I made for myself is to be able to speak four languages.That is, four languages including Korean... right?
WW Of course! (laughs)
DK Ahaha! Imagine!
WW I'm sure there's areas where my Korean is still lacking (laughs). I want to learn Japanese, English, and Chinese so that I can travel anywhere I want to.

ARENA HOMME INTERVIEW

You went to Scotland for the shooting of this pictorial. Please tell us about your favorite photo you took on your phone.
As I was walking around the streets of Scotland, I came across a cafe. It was this deep blue building, and I loved the colors of it, so I took some photos with the cafe as the background. I just took them lightly but it came out really nice and pretty. I'm thinking of posting them later on on Weverse or Instagram. Make sure to go check! (laughs)I heard you like whiskey, is there a whiskey that left an impression on you this trip?
When I visited this whiskey store, I was able to sample various whiskeys. I don't remember the exact name, but I was recommended a whiskey that was only one out of 593 bottles produced. I sampled it, and it was such an out of the ordinary type and taste, so I liked it. Outside of that, I was able to come across various Scotland whiskeys, so l enjoyed it.

Idols have many needs to ride an airplane. Is there an item you must pack when traveling overseas?
First off, airpods. There's been a couple times when I left my airpods at home when departing for an overseas schedule. It was so hard to get through the flight. Now it's the item I pay most attention to packing before a flight. These days it's actually just hanging on my bag. I also be sure to pack perfume. I'm using Creed Royal Oud. It's an inseparable must-have item for me. Wherever I go, I check to see if it's in my bag.I've heard that your singing skills have improved greatly compared to the beginning of your debut. I'm sure there's a song you like your voice the most in.
There's a song by SEVENTEEN's vocal team called 'Hug. It gives the feeling of a warm embrace. I feel like that kind of vibe suits my vocal color. Like the title, the lyrics are about embracing someone, so I really like the song.Every SEVENTEEN album is special, but is there one that's particularly meaningful to you?
Every album has its own meaning, but I think the album we're preparing now is the most meaningful. We're preparing really hard, so I hope CARATS really look forward to it.Artists have to perform for long periods of time on stage, so I feel like you have to have good stamina. In that sense, is there something you do or don't do in order to do your job well?
Lately, I've been exercising again. Because I want to show CARATs a more positive side on stage for a long time. In order to do that, it's important to maintain your stamina. If there's an important performance or stage coming up, I make sure to sleep early and try to maintain the best condition possible.

What is something you are really good at, and something you want to get better at?
Whether it be a good or bad situation, I think I'm good at accepting things positively. Sometimes there's moments where even if you try really hard, it's difficult. But I think to myself 'I should share positivity with other people' and regroup and try to have more strength.I believe stress-relief is a skill. How do you overcome moments of difficulty when you're working?
I jog a lot. When stress piles up, I'm the type to relieve it through long walks or runs. I feel like if I just run wherever my feet take me without a destination, my distracting thoughts fly away and my head becomes clear. The next time CARATs are tired or exhausted, rather than trying to get over it in your rooms, I recommend going outside, basking in the sun, and running till you sweat.Fans look forward to many different hair colors. What's your personal favorite?
I don't know if it's because I want to show CARATs a more mature side of me, but l've been liking black the most. I'm curious what CARATs think (laughs).Gentleman, Intro Fairy, etc., you have a lot of nicknames. Do you have a favorite?
I'm so thankful that CARATs come up with various nicknames while thinking of me, but on one hand, I like when they call me Joshua the most. There's many nicknames I like, but sometimes I'm shy. As if l've become an introvert (laughs).We recently interviewed Mingyu and he said that out of the SEVENTEEN members, he takes good photos. When you go abroad, which member do you ask to take your photos?
I also think the photos Mingyu takes come out the best. When he takes them, he doesn't really lay low- he tries really hard (laughs). As a result, the photos surely come out well. Now we're familiar with what angles each of us likes.

Your instagram username is @joshu_acoustic. If you were to make an acoustic solo album, what genre would it be?
I want to try a bright song. For example, 'Mama Don't Worry' by Sam Kim. I want to pour in the topics I want to talk about [into the song] and share them authentically.What do you personally think is unique about SEVENTEEN?
Wouldn't it be our 'togetherness'? I think there's a positive energy that only our team can give. CARATs can surely feel that positive energy that the members create together. I want to show CARATS SEVENTEEN's friend-like relationship and be together for a long long time.Please tell us if there's something you really want to achieve this year.
This year, I want to show various sides of 'Joshua’. I want to challenge myself to new photoshoots/pictorials and show very diverse sides of myself to CARATs.You're known to be good at acrostic poems. If I may ask, can you do one for "Arena"?

NA (나) - (나 = me) It must be mePerfume making, jogging, etc. you're known to have various tastes. What is the hobby you put the most time into lately?
I spend the most time with fragrances. I've always been keen about them, and I like smelling various scents, so l've been collecting perfumes. My routine has been to wear a different perfume everyday and start my day with a fresh mindset.

What's a moment throughout being in SEVENTEEN when you thought 'I chose a good path'?
When I'm able to be dutiful to my parents, when I meet CARATS and get energy from them, when I hear about how SEVENTEEN and I give CARATs much comfort and strength, and when I'm able to be a positive influence to others is when I feel happy.How do you want to be remembered 10 years from now?
I want to be remembered as 'SEVENTEEN's Joshua'. I worked for a really long time to debut as a member of SEVENTEEN. And I've been a member of SEVENTEEN for even longer. I'm going to keep working hard as SEVENTEEN's Joshua going forward. When 10 years pass by, I'm going to have spent more than half of my life as SEVENTEEN's Joshua. I trust that SEVENTEEN and 1, and CARATs will have an even stronger bond than we have now. As much as I like 'Hong Jisoo' and 'Joshua', I want to be remembered as 'SEVENTEEN's Joshua'.

Have you been doing well?
Yes, I've been diligently doing rehab, and watching all the guys' performances. I've really been wanting to perform together again. It's the first time l've watched from the audience. As I watched, I thought 'Ah, these guys deserve to receive love. Being skilled is one thing, but they looked really happy being on stage.They are SEVENTEEN after all.
Of course! That's right. But they're really bad at the greeting (laughs). They would keep making mistakes so we'd talk about it and tease each other for it. That's why I thought 'I wish we were all together' even more.Watching them from afar makes you feel like they've grown a lot right?
In my eyes, they're the same. You can see that they're guys who have great desire/passion. They're not lazy, they're full of spirit, and unrelentingly fierce. To me, they're no different from the past. It was nice to see them that way rather than them being more laid back.

How was your time alone?
I think I tried to be honest with my feelings. I was frustrated and angry with myself many times. Because I've gone from someone who uses their body to someone who can't.I thought I should be careful with what I say. Because I'm sure both you were physically and mentally hurting.
Rehab felt more like overcoming myself rather than like exercise. I was worried. I had rash concerns like 'Even if I consistently do rehab, will I be able to use my body like before?' It was already a weaker area of my body when we would tour, but since I got hurt, I unconsciously became more scared and more cautious when I moved.You tried not to fall into those doubts rights? I saw the gratitude journal you wrote.
The person who made that diary happened to be a CARAT. There was a note, and the CARAT wrote that they've always received comfort from me. But I ended up being really comforted by that diary. I was really thankful, and it was really meaningful. Human connection is so fascinating.

"I'm thankful to the members who kept saying they love me throughout our call. I should work harder at rehab to be with them even a day faster. I started doing leg presses and the pain was less than I thought so l was relieved. I feel like I can be brave and be more confident in rehab tomorrow." I thought about how you felt writing this while not knowing when you will completely heal.
I wanted to hurry and be on stage. Mm... It somewhat felt like a shame- each and every time I couldn't be with the members on stage. Not that there's some specific end to SEVENTEEN, but I just had strong thoughts of wanting to do everything together in the time that we can be together. I think those thoughts are what got me through.It seemed like the members really knew how regretful and sad you felt.
It's because I talk about it so much in our group chat.(laughs) 'Is it fun...?', 'You're happy even without me?'It seems like to you, the stage is where you can be with SEVENTEEN.
That's why I don't really have the desire to do a solo stage. I've always thought that I just enjoy being on stage with the members, and never really felt that happy being on stage alone. Just being with these people is fun, I'm happy. But then there's even other people who like that? This is what I feel. It's what l've come to feel.What can you say about that synergy?
To me, it's number one in my life.

SEVENTEEN has always looked like 13 friends. I remember there's moments when it's clear who the general leader, unit leaders, and hyungs and dongsaengs are.
That's right. I don't know what the members think but, (laughs) up until 2020, I was kind of a scary hyung. That way the team would be proper and not fall out of line. More than anything, I did that wanting the members to love each other the most when it came to this job. So at one point, there were a lot of rules, and I gave a lot of feedback as the hyung. But then we ended up not really being happy on stage.There's a charm that comes with being more free.
That's what SEVENTEEN's charm is. That charm won't show when things are too disciplined, awkward, and uptight. That's why I felt like I was doing something wrong. At that time, JEONGHAN really helped me. JEONGHAN has always had a casual, friend-like relationship with the members, so he gave me lots of advice and even conveyed to the members how I really felt. From that point on, I let go of a lot of things. Though everyone did well on their own too.What changed the most after becoming more like friends?
When I was a scary hyung, the first thing I'd pay attention to was formations, the timing of something, who made a mistake, etc. but now I just see how they're performing so happily. When I see the members by my side dancing diligently, they're just so happy and enjoying it, and I become happy with him.I can see [that happiness] in the way you've become more open with yourself as well. I heard you're usually the youngest son with a lot of aegyo at home.
That's right. In some ways, one's role makes them who they are, and now those roles (as a leader and youngest son) have been well integrated. The members have been so patient and accepted the changes really well.It would be fun to see you act clueless and whiny towards them.
I do that now. I couldn't do it much in the last, but now it's whatever. (laughs)

People don't know how to be weak. Not even a little. But it's important to know how to.
To put it nicely, in some ways I'm just careful, but I myself conclude it as having a lot of fear. So I always think of the worst possible situation and come up with ways to manage that before going forward.It must have been difficult overcoming each situation and moving on.
I didn't even try to overcome it. It just happened. Thinking 'I have to overcome this' makes it difficult for the people around you. Just going with the flow and leaving it be is the way to go. The more I try to overcome something, the more I felt like I would rely too much on those around me and make it hard on them. Trying to receive someone else's strength has never been much of a good solution for me.What do the members say they know about you?
All 12 of them say different things. (laughs) | treat each and every one of them according to their style (how they are). That's why they say different things. In some ways, I'm an immature maknae-like hyung to MINGYU, and I'm just so much of a leader to THE8.

You've become a personalized, versatile person, much like SEVENTEEN.
I want SEVENTEEN to be a team who fights, laughs, cries, is happy, has fun, and feels many things outside of that as well. A person can't be happy all the time in their life. I want us to fight, feel sad, down- I'd like us to communicate and feel these things together.How would you want to be in the center of all that?
I'm not in the center of it. (laughs) I'll be somewhere off to the end.A leader who is at the end rather than in the center? Do you prefer to be that kind of hyung or a friend?
When the waves are crashing, I just want to sway along with it. If I'm in the center standing tall, I feel like l'd break instead. I want to go this way, go that way, back and forth like this. I think I can do that. Because no matter where I am, SEVENTEEN will always be by my side.

WW: When he's complimented by the staff for wearing the suit so amazingly well, he blushes in modesty and says, "it's thanks to the stylist..." but when the shutter begins to click, he holds himself confidently in a complete change!DK: We said "you're like the agent who shows up in the movie Kingsman! you look great!" to DK who changed into the suit, and he playfully responds with a line from the movie: "manners maketh man."

Concealing his playfulness within the classic styling, Wonwoo wears the suit handsomely with ease.WW: When I wear a suit, my posture naturally straightens out. I think clothes help create one's mood.His potential to squarely and elegantly pull off the orthodox style is in one word, awestriking.DK: I'm happy that my wanting to wear the suit style with Wonwoo came true!

Talk time of Endless Topics between the Elegant Two
—DK had previously requested a classic suit style, so this time's theme was decided.WW: So it was DK's idea (jpn).
DK: Yes, it was my idea (jpn). I'm happy for this photoshoot of us, cool and sharp in suits, and that my suggestion was realized. It's fun that, even though it's the same suit style, we have different items styled on us. But the thought that Wonwoo might be the one who looks better made me pause (laughs).
WW: I saw DK on the monitor and was shocked by how cool you looked! It was fun that the concept idea originated from DK, and we were both like "oohh!" when we saw each other after coming out of the makeup room.—We often see you two in formal suits at award shows etc, but do you wear them in your private time?
DK: About five years ago, Hoshi got an order-made suit for me. I treasured it greatly but when I thought to wear it to an acquaintance's wedding the other day, the length had become short and the shoulders were super tight. I want a new one.
WW: I don't own this kind of proper suit yet, so when I wear them at these photoshoots [and
award shows] etc, it puts me in a special feeling. I still remember the first time I wore a proper suit; I was able to walk confidently, sort of like straightening out my posture.
DK: I get it. I like casual clothes too but it's mysterious how wearing a suit lights up your fighting spirit. So what if we got one made when we turn 30yo as a milestone?
WW: Oo~ that sounds good!

—If you came into possession of a wonderful suit, what's the one thing you want to do the most?
DK: On the contrary, I want to try leisurely taking a walk. Although it's nice to go to a fancy restaurant, I think it'd be fashionable to spend an ordinary day in a suit too. Even just going to the convenience store in a suit, I think my mood would be different.
WW: I want to wear a suit like today's and ride a scooter! I heard that in England, there are times when you'd ride a scooter in a suit. I think it [sounds] lovely.—It's interesting that you two don't want to go to a place with a dress code. What are your best clothes as of recent for occasions when you have to dress up?
DK: For a minor occasion, I would unify my top neatly in a shirt, tie, and jacket, and pick leather shoes without fail. But for my bottom, I would wear denim pants for a mixed outfit to create a relaxed style.—It's the style that our readers like!
DK: Yeaaaay!
WW: If slightly casual is OK too, I would add a trending item [to formal wear] and dress casually down. If it's a slightly more prim and proper place, maybe a turtle neck with a coat; like the time I visited Tokyo's DIOR event.—Did you wear all the clothes you bought in Tokyo last year?
WW: Yes, I wore everything! I'm looking forward to the next shopping (all in jpn).
DK: Shopping King! (eng)—Whereas DK specializes in impulse shopping.
DK: Yes, I'm the Impulse Shopping King!—By the way, amongst the items you've purchased, what has made you think you've become an adult?
DK: I used to only buy sneakers but before I realized it, I'm also buying leather shoes. I've started being particular about leather, such as belts, when I'm shopping; so when I think about it, I've become an adult. It's fun to do research and stuff because there's a variety of leathers. I especially like suède.
WW: Cool! (jpn) For me, l've come to like the accessories and wristwatches that I didn't have interest in when I was younger. I even have a favorite brand, that's pretty adult.

—This time's theme is "elegant." What is the first thing that comes to mind?
DK: Wonwoo-san (jpn)
WW: Ahahaha!!! I'm embarrassed!
DK: It's true. When I heard the word elegant, you came to mind immediately.
WW: DK is also elegant though. You wear today's suit so wonderfully!—You two are always so considerate and well-mannered, it's very elegant.
DK: Ooh, is that so..? (deep voice)
WW: All of a sudden? (laughs)—Japan has a week of public holidays coming up. Korea is a popular travel destination for our readers. Please tell them of phrases they can use while there.
DK: This doesn't have much to do with traveling but this is Korean that I thought of definitely telling Men's Non-no's reader. It’s “적게 일하고 많이버세요" and it means "please work little but earn lots."
WW: (bursts out laughing) That has nothing to do with traveling! (jpn)
DK: I said it because I want the readers to feel pleasant~ So next is, "나 멋져?" which means "am i cool?"
WW: (bursts out laughing again)
DK: It's because I thought Men's Non-no readers can say this to store staff when they're trying on clothes!
WW: I see (laughs) I have two! The first one is "어떻게 가나요?" It's a phrase to inquire about the place you want to go to. Like if you want to ask, "how do I get to Han River?"—That's useful!
WW: I have one more to share. In Korea, there are restaurants where you can get seconds for vegetables. Please say "반찬 더 주세요" when you want to ask for seconds.
DK: "이거 진짜 맛있어요!"
WW: That's important! (laughs) DK just said "this is delicious." I think the restaurant staff will be delighted. They will definitely be happy if a customer from abroad tells them it's delicious in Korean!—That's a splendid chain of examples! So after asking for seconds, we should say that it was delicious.
DK: And when you leave the restaurant, “나 멋져?”
WW: Why? (laughs)—Finally, I believe you've started practicing for your Japan stadium shows in earnest now. Please share your enthusiasm.
DK: We are already ready to go all out and have fun with everyone! (laughs)
WW: I hope everyone can have the time of their life and go home after releasing their stress!
DK: I especially want to let those who will be coming for the first time know that they don't have to worry about those around them. The people who will be there are the same, they're all our precious CARATS. It's ok to not know the fanchats or the choreography, please just have fun! Right, Elegant Wonwoo?

Since a young age, Wen Junhui has been under the spotlight. He has grown accustomed to the gazes fixed on him from cameras and crowds, seamlessly switching into "idol mode" the moment the spotlight falls on him. Away from the stage, however, he reverts to an easygoing young man who enjoys the simpler things in life: the hustle and bustle of the city, the wind caressing his cheeks, and the small moments of happiness that life brings. Despite the hardships he has endured, he still retains a spotless innocence and shares his life and work experiences as if speaking to an old friend. He is JUN, the Chinese member of the Korean idol group SEVENTEEN. He is also WEN JUNHUl, an actor and singer. Having received a lot of love that has lifted him and made him shine, he now wants to share this warmth with others, even from afar.

EVERY SPECIFIC MOMENT

Absorbing and preserving energy like a sponge

We met in early spring when the weather started to turn warm. He immediately bowed and greeted everyone the moment he entered the studio, sweet and gentle. After he finished his performances for the JiangsuTV Spring Gala and Lantern Festival in February, he returned to Korea to continue working and training, following an orderly and packed schedule. During these quiet and calm days, he described himself as a sponge, continuously absorbing and preserving energy,working to focus even more on minute details. "Every piece of work that I perform, be it music or dance, consists of my own thoughts and interpretation. This means I have to gain more experience in my everyday life. The performance will only touch the audience if I put a part of myself into it."All the little trivial moments are remembered.
WEN JUNHUI recounts a memory from his travels like a storyteller. "I was wandering around aimlessly and walked past a small alley. A piano was playing a pleasant melody, so I stopped and looked up. It was coming from a window on the second floor. There was the tune from the piano, someone else was practising opera; the two intertwined delicately." He said that this was a chance encounter with music, and he held onto all of it, including the weather that day. "It was great; it was warm but not hot. I wore a soft sweater and felt light as a breeze. How do I describe it? Everything was cozy and comfortable."

"Wandering" has become a habit. Wherever he sets foot in a city for work, WEN JUNHUI makes sure to take time to have a personal experience with the locale.
There is no fixed destination and no need for a plan; all he needs are his earphones. He jokes that he'll walk wherever his legs can carry him.
He can find joy in the most ordinary views. "I like to wander into the winding alleyways and explore the specialties that only locals know about. Shenzhen's alleys hide many delicious
restaurants, which are usually small and hard to find, but their Cheung Fun, Lou Mei, and Char Siu are all delectable. The places only the locals know about"

When he appeared on the variety show "A Delicious Guess" last year, WEN JUNHUI recommended Shenzhen delicacies. Talking about Shenzhen again today, he shared more anecdotes from his childhood. "I personally love spicy food; even though there are hotpot places everywhere, I still want to go to my mother's hometown, Chongqing, to try the authentic hotpot. When I went to school in Shenzhen, I always passed by Da Fen Oil Painting Village.
Those interested in art and oil painting can check it out; they're famous for their paintings. There is also Nanling Village, with its rich Hakka history and culture; it is a good place to experience the local traditions."WEN JUNHUI speaks about his hometown, Shenzhen, with great enthusiasm. Despite busy work schedules pulling him in all directions, he hasn't lost his sensitive nature. He reminisces about seemingly insignificant moments, often at unsuspecting times. Besides being a part of his personality, WEN JUNHUI believes this trait also stems from his acting classes. "Before coming to Korea, I was always studying acting. My teacher emphasized the importance of observation, stating that observing is learning. In these years, I have developed the habit of watching people around me, analyzing the rhythm of their movements and facial expressions. It's quite enjoyable."

Last July, WEN JUNHUI released his digital single "PSYCHO". This is his fourth single, and he participated in the production process. One of the recurring lines in the song, "Stop lying to yourself," feels like an awakening of his inner consciousness, prompting him to listen to his heart. Compared to "LIMBO," released a year prior, the latter has a more complicated aura but is presented with clarity. WEN JUNHUl's personal growth can be discerned between the lines of the straightforward lyrics, which he is happy to share with the world. "My work and performance are like self-reflections. By portraying myself as I am in the moment, it's a collision of ideal states."In May 2015, WEN JUNHUI debuted as a singer in SEVENTEEN with their first mini album,
"17 CARAT." In the blink of an eye, the group is 9 years old, and WEN JUNHUI has been immersed in musical expression, both as part of the team and as an individual, for 9 years. During this time, he has also released numerous solo singles. Last year, he won the Rising Star of the Year Award at the 28th Busan International Film Festival for his role as the lead actor in the web drama "Exclusive Fairytale." Before debuting as an idol, WEN JUNHUI was an actor. He was chosen to shoot an advertisement with Nick Cheung when he was 2 years old, kickstarting his acting career. He quickly went on to act in many dramas and movies, portraying the lead characters' childhood self. In 2006, WEN JUNHUI starred in the movie "The Pye-Dog" with Eason Chan. The director framed the movie from his point of view as an innocent child who fabricated a wonderland from the cruel reality of the world. The character Lam Chi-Hung was not anyone's childhood self but a standalone character; moreover, the character is unable to speak, and performances depended heavily on expressions and body language. With his portrayal, WEN JUNHUl won the Best New Performer Silver Award at the 2007 Hong Kong Director's Guild Awards and was nominated for the Best New Artist Award at the 27th Hong Kong Film Awards."Actually, thinking about it now, it's a pity that I was so young when I was filming 'The Pye-Dog.' I couldn't learn more from the senior actors around me." WEN JUNHUI remembered being well taken care of when working with actors such as Eason Chan and George Lam, nurturing his interest in acting. "Filming dramas and movies is like experiencing another life in a short amount of time. By thinking and experiencing life as the character, I unlock another perspective, and all that I gain will influence my own life and performance positively. They complement each other."Film and music are interconnected by their abilities to inspire. WEN JUNHUI gradually found a balance as he explored the different art forms. "Every performance, every song, every character has its own soul. Of course, different portrayals evoke different reactions from the audience, but for me personally, I am living as one with these various souls. It's an indescribable, wonderful experience. Through these diverse adventures, I gain experience. As I mentioned before, through wandering around and observing, I retain tiny details in my head. All these feelings will nurture me and improve my artistic expression."

Love and radiance are all about mutual reciprocity

WEN JUNHUI's performance, both on stage and in theatres, is sensitive and profound, owing to his empathetic personality and inclination to observe and record everything around him. In 2012, at the age of 16, WEN JUNHUI began his trainee life. While working hard in a foreign country, he also mastered the life skills necessary to succeed his everyday life. In addition to excelling in training, he also took care of himself. "When I have time, I will cook my own meals. My favorites are the home-cooked dishes my mum and grandmother taught me, such as braised pork trotters, boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili, and Chinese pancakes. When I don't have much of an appetite, I'll make century egg and pork congee. I basically just try to replicate the flavors from my childhood as I remember."After 9 years since their debut, SEVENTEEN members have become inseparable friends and comrades as they endure hardships and chase after their dreams together. Watching their variety shows and observing their interactions, it seems like SEVENTEEN has developed
penchant for Chinese cuisine. Everyone shows a great passion for Chinese food, constantly mentioning it in conversations and laughter. During their exhausting training sessions, both art and food must have served as great sources of comfort.Looking back, the members went through rough patches while pursuing their dreams. The brutal competition in the industry and the varying life encounters impacted WEN JUNHUI deeply.
"Around this time ten years ago, it was a situation where it was all or nothing for us. Everyone was under a lot of stress because we were nearing our debut, and our training became more intensive and difficult. The pressure on our mental states was indescribable. If there were a time machine and I could go back to that time, I would definitely encourage everyone to face whatever's coming next because the future is dazzling."

WEN JUNHUI remembers the advice of a senior when he was still a trainee about how trials and tribulations transform over time. The hardships and misery they once endured will turn into entertaining memories when they look back after debut. Contemplating this now, he has many thoughts. "I didn't understand at first, but now I do. It's like how people only start to miss the days of studying in school after they graduate. Sometimes I miss those days too, the days as trainees and the days learning acting in Beijing, when we slept in bunk beds and talked about our dreams. That was simple but tangible happiness."Learning acting and choosing the arts is a difficult and competitive route. WEN JUNHUI recalls that many of his classmates, who had a lot of potential and skills, had to give up, change their careers, or switch to behind-the-scenes roles because their families couldn't continue supporting them. "My family is a really big reason why I could persevere," he paused and steadied his voice. "I guess this is the harsh reality. I didn't grow up with an art background, and there weren't many students who studied it in school either. Parents generally felt that it was more important to have a stable career, but my parents encouraged me to pursue my dreams. The only requirement was for me to be responsible for the consequences of my decision."His parents were a huge beacon of encouragement and support for WEN JUNHUI when he was learning acting and when he left for Korea to become a trainee. When he was a young boy learning martial arts, his father used to say, "Since you've decided to learn it, learn it well. The skills you learn will always belong to you." The experience of learning martial arts also laid a strong foundation for his days as a trainee, both in character and physical strength. No matter the physical or mental challenge, WEN JUNHUI demonstrated a high level of concentration and perseverance. "We had special training during the winter and summer holidays. The first thing we did after waking up was running to warm up and improve our stamina. We also had to learn basic martial arts techniques such as standing meditation, the horse stance, butterfly step, and cross step, in addition to different punches, there were a lot of things to learn. Even though it was tough, I came to understand the importance of perseverance."

The love he received while growing up has nurtured him to be compassionate and gentle.
He speaks calmly and doesn't show any abrupt mood changes, nor any signs of fatigue despite the long hours of work. He was kind and considerate throughout, and working with him was like a breath of fresh air. Yet, when faced with these compliments, WEN JUNHUI shies away, saying, "Whether it be my colleagues or my fans, they all come together because they believe in me and support me. Of course I should be good to all of you."He laughs when talking about fun interactions with his fans. They converse like reunited old friends, sharing accomplishments from work and life. They update him on everything: postgraduate entrance exams, doctoral candidate exams, even exams for certificates. "I think my relationship with them surrounds mutual achievements. A fan once told me that they could receive their Teacher Qualification Certificate because my experience gave her a lot of strength. I told her that, rather than saying I gave her the strength to do it, the strength was hers all along. I was just a slight push," WEN JUNHUI hopes that fans can recognize their own value, that love and radiance are all about mutual reciprocity. "I feel honored that they share all these with me; it's not easy to find company in life's travels. I am happy to help them overcome some troubles and be one of the steps on their ladder to their dreams."In WEN JUNHUl's eyes, this is the purest dance of love and radiance.

He fulfills his role and pours all his energy into his groupAs if announcing the end of a long winter, a spring wind flutters over Seoul in the middle of March. Along with the long-awaited arrival of the season, Seventeen's S.COUPS is back in front of the cameras.SPUR is his first solo cover feature in Japan. Additionally, the first Japanese magazine photoshoot since his return from recuperation of his injury seems to have been a special moment for him too.SC Up until now, photoshooting alone felt a little burdensome so I never volunteered for magazine model jobs. But before I make CARATs wait, I want to show a side of S.COUPS that can only be seen on SPUR, so I made up my mind. I hope they're able to enjoy a charm that's different from that of concerts and SNS content.Going forth with that intent for the photoshoot, we first had him choose his favorite piece of clothing.SC Thank you for preparing all the wonderful outfits. I liked all of them but if I had to say, it'd be the outfit with the khaki coat. It's the "old money" style that I personally like, and it also gives a slight casual vibe that I want to try imitating in my private closet.

S.COUPS is known as the general leader of the group that currently leads the K-POP scene. But, there's not a lot of opportunities to learn of his inner world. So when he's asked to reiterate, "who is S.COUPS?" he gave us a surprising answer after a moment of silence.SC A person who wants to look strong... I guess. I don't want to look weak. A leader is the front man of the group. Because of that, I hate it when the team's energy or image is perceived as weak. But the real me is a person of caution and cowardice. I think that's exactly why, even more so, I want to show a stronger self. I say that but recently, because our career has come this far, I've been showing an undecorated part of myself. In that sense, a maknae image might be attached to me now (laughs).A change in his heart that came with age and the growth of their careers seems to have affected the group’s way of being.SC To the members, S.COUPS is an older brother and a leader, so I was strict with them at the time of our debut. But I was concerned whether standing on stage with that tension on our shoulders was really "happiness", and always felt off about that environment. So I spent time changing while aiming for a stage that all the members can feel joy on.Even as an artist himself, he's always declaring that "if it's for the group's sake, [hel doesn't mind refraining from solo activities." We inquired about his heart's resolution to practice restraint in order to devote himself to his team.SC Rather than devoting, I see it as one of the roles [that I can be]. It's the same for all the members. Even if our methods are different, we're all moving for each other's sake. In my case, it's just that I happen to have the role of the leader assigned to me. I'm protecting the team by focusing my time and energy on group activities rather than solo activities.

In a previous interview with JEONGHAN, he also said "I want to be of use to the group, so l'll do anything that I can." At their consensus that didn't feel coincidental, we wondered if there was an unspoken rule between the two of them.SC Since we're the same age and of the hyung line, I talk to JEONGHAN a lot; so our attitude regarding the team might have naturally come to resemble each other. We're careful to not move according to our greed just because we're older. We can only hope that the others see how we are, and think for themselves about the team.His solo song "ME", released at the end of last year through SNS, left a strong impression especially because of his behind-the-scenes disposition. What was the message hidden behind those lyrics that seemingly revealed his innermost thoughts?SC I wanted to express that "I'm ok, so don't worry." CARATs are always able to sense when I'm struggling and having a hard time. That's why I thought that if I don't let them know that I'm ok, they'll continue to be anxious for me. In front of CARATs, I want to be honest. I'd be happy if they'd listen to it knowing that "Choi Seungcheol" and "S.COUPS" went through a lot but got through all of it.Without looking back, [they] keep running forward while only looking up.It's been nine years since their debut. In recent years, they've broken historical records for the number one selling album. SEVENTEEN stands at the top of K-pop in both name and number. Their achievements go without saying; but the driving force for their overwhelming passion and quality as can be seen in each comeback, is the existence of something precious.SC Of course CARATs are the reason I can do my best, but at the same time, the members are also my absolute strength. When I'm out of breath and feel like I'm about to collapse, when I'm drained and want to take a break, it was always my brothers who pulled my hand so that I could run again. I've learned a lot from watching how energetic they are at any given time, and from that, I'm able to find courage in my heart. So when someone else collapses, I reach out my hand. That's how we've been each other's support as we've come this far, aiming for further.

As K-POP evolves at an unpredictable pace, how will they face the currents without being swept away by it?SC I hope we can continue as we are now, doing what we do best, without being too hung up. Yes, the K-POP market has changed greatly; but if we had tried to ride that wave while forcing change upon our individualities and the things that we wanted to do, then the current SEVENTEEN wouldn't exist. Our greatest strength and weapon is our belief in each other and ourselves. The songs that WOOZI creates are never influenced by the times or trends. He has always delivered the words that we wanted to convey at the moment, to CARATS through his melodies. We'll continue as we have, forging our own path. And our Best Album, which can be said to be the culmination [of our hard work], will be released at the end of April. If I were to put our concept into one word, it'd be "WOOZI". It feels like a reflection of the road that he's taken here.This year, their first dongsaeng group TwS debuted and opened the curtains on K-POP's 5th generation. So we asked him for advice to the junior groups that will debut one after another.SC When we were rookies, the words of "you guys will definitely succeed!" from our seniors gave me a lot of strength. So rather than advice, I want to compliment them a lot and support them from the bottom of my heart. There'll be struggles in the future and unpredictable troubles will occur; your hearts will wear, and you'll probably get injured too. But if you have your members, you'll get through it. If you feel like you're alone, please rely on the members and friends around you. And please become someone who can be relied on by a lot of people.In the coming May, their first Japanese stadium tour will begin. What with being a stage that only successful artists can stand upon, it raises even more attention and expectations.SC To start off, just being able to get up on stage again makes me happy. Honestly, the stadium tour still doesn't feel real. Although I was unable to perform, as a result of my injury, on last year's dome tour that l've dreamed of since debut, I was in the same space. The energy that filled the Dome in a moment and the happiness that could only be felt from that grand of a scale, was moving. I can't begin to imagine how a stadium is even bigger than that. At any rate, I'm excited. And thanks to the CARATs who supported us all this time, I'm very proud that we've become artists who can hold a concert at a stadium. Although I asked to be on stage this time, I'll be greatly satisfied just seeing everyone's faces. Please don't worry.Even after the tour, their activities continue to broaden almost infinitely, such as their scheduled appearance at Lollapalooza Berlin. And we wonder where their energy that bubbles out endlessly, like the magma from a volcano, comes from.SC I want to know too (laughs). The only thing I can say is, energy naturally surges when the thirteen of us are together. I guess we're tied by a mysterious thread of fate.

Speaking of fate, the bond between SEVENTEEN and CARATs is known to be strong. The fact that they have been able to continue as a group for these nine years is a testament to the hard work of both parties.SC Idols have to be on the side that gives love. Rather than being satisfied with only being loved by CARATs, how can we convey even more love to them? I think we've been able to maintain a good relationship because we're constantly searching [for] and implementing [new methods]. If their feelings were one-sided, they'd definitely get exhausted. In order to repay their support to the best of our abilities, our label also works together to continuously output content. Thankfully our staff does in-depth research on what CARATs want, and tells us. And they let us do whatever we want. It's a happy environment.We asked what the role of a leader means to him as the person who unites SEVENTEEN and all those around them.SC A leader is just another member of the group, nothing more and nothing less. Instead, I want to be the group's pillar that the members can rely on.
I want to be that sort of existence.The threads of fate that S.COUPS spins, what kind of future will they weave together? The fabric that will be completed eventually would surely be embracing and warm.*

WONWOO: On the pre-photoshoot survey, the question asked “what do you like about yourself” and he answered “shoulders and eyes”. The staff agreed in consensus. He went ahead with the photoshoot while conscious of his own charm points.“I think my charm point is these shoulders that show off clothes handsomely.” “These eyes that get called lovely often are also my favorite.”DK: In order to photoshoot in his best condition, he pumped himself up with pushups right before. By the way, it seems DK always reads their serialization, even this small profile section, thoroughly.“I like the bridge of my nose. I like that it’s slightly pointed.” “And my calves that staffs often compliment me on!”

It’d be even more wonderful if I could enjoy fashion by making the best of my charm points!
WW: The parts that I like of myself are my “shoulders” that I often get told are broad and beautifully shaped, and my “width long eyes”. Because I get compliments for both from those around me, I was able to understand them to be my strong points and come to like them more. Even Men’s Non-no’s photographer(s) too, they are always telling me that my eyes are nice when we’re photoshooting (laughs). I’d be happy if I could make good use of the parts of myself that I have confidence in, my shoulders and my eyes, to wear various clothes well and enjoy styling.I also take care to relax by going on walks, listening to music that I like, and such; and not just holding myself to a strict menu. Stretching slowly is also good. I recommend stretching your shoulders and neck; before exercising, please stretch your neck thoroughly.It became the favorite part of myself before I knew it, because the people around me complimented it often.DK: I like my “long and narrow calves” and the “profile of my nose bridge”. Staffs are often telling me the outline of my calves is really beautiful; and maybe because of that, stylists often prepare shorts for me. I realized I liked my nose from looking at the photos I took and monitoring our stages (laughs). I like how it’s a little long, where the tip is pointed, and the sharp shape of it; I think it’s lovely.The bodycare menu I especially like is the foam roller stretch. It stretches out the muscle while putting pressure on the whole body. I am the type to keep to a routine so I’m more suited to exercising with a plan on my off days and building up my body little by little. Aside from gyming, I also put effort into my diet and my vocal warm up before singing.

You cherish what you’re born with by knowing and affirming yourself.Your body is your strongest ally in living your days positively and healthily. The current generation of Men’s Non-no readers are in support of working towards self-satisfying self-care in the sense of building self-esteem and maintaining a comfortable state of self; and not, pushing yourself to meet beauty standards under the pressure of external judgment. To the two who always stand tall and proud, we asked them for their secret to being the better version of themselves.I’m sure you two spend a lot of time taking care of yourselves, from bodybuilding to watching your health to skin care; what kind of positive influences has it had on you?WW: Firstly, I think a sense of responsibility for your actions is born from self-care. I have the impression that that sense of responsibility makes your heart even stronger. Especially, you can also adjust your mind and condition to a comfortable state through sweating like playing sports or exercising.DK: I get that! Of course gyming is for the sake of the body but I think it plays a big part in building mental fortitude! Moving my body helps me destress and disperse unnecessary thoughts, so I make sure to exercise when I have time on my days off because it gives me energy. Additionally, keeping in shape widens the range of expression I can do and gives me confidence. That’s why it’s less wanting to look good for someone and more for my own sake.

Such as in the sense that fashion has become more fun?WW: You’re right. I have been able to challenge more clothing diversity by keeping in shape, and shopping has become more fun too!DK: Yes, right? Just by keeping in shape, you’ll start to think that “I have to treasure my body more.” I want to enjoy fashion healthily and gorgeously forever, so I’ll work hard to continue [exercising].How do you think someone can discover the part of themselves, whether inward or outward appearances, that they like?WW: I believe that the parts that other people compliment are our strong points, so wouldn’t it be good to make the best of those?DK: That’s good! Additionally, how about first figuring out what you like? I think it’s important to understand yourself, but I also have trouble on that front too. What kind of person am I? What do I like? What’s my personality? What kind of clothes do I like? What kind of styling is my favorite? What are my hobbies? I think you’ll realize your strong points once you think about yourself from different angles. Surely everyone will find [their strengths]!WW: At the end of the day, studying yourself is necessary to finding what you like and what suits you. And on top of that, exercising too and buying items that go well with your vibe.DK: Exactly. Appearances might be important but you have to properly look within yourself too. I also hope to become someone who’s wonderful both inside and out!

And if in that process they have to confront their complexes, whether internal or external, what do you think will help them to overcome those complexes?WW: To overcome your complexes, you need to find a strong point to call your own!DK: How about accepting even those complexes? Instead of avoiding it out of rejection, there could be a solution after reassessing [your complexes] with kindness; or if you’re able to accept [your complexes] then it’d no longer be a complex!Both are wonderful mindsets.DK: I believe having a “good attitude” is important. I also try to always stay positive, like thinking of complex things as simply as possible. Sometimes it’s not so easy but I’m originally a straightforward person, so I’m able to readjust immediately.WW: Everyone’s condition is different but by affirming yourself, each person’s most ideal self is the self that you’ve built up to suit yourself.DK: Yeah! "their destiny and future"SEVENTEEN is a miracle group of thirteen people overflowing with individuality, brought together by destiny. Their synergy gives rise to continuous evolution, so what kind of future reflects in their eyes? Jeonghan and Wonwoo show off a matured charm as they welcome their tenth year of activity, and what lies in front of their eyes?The distance between the two who acknowledges and watches out for each other.They describe each other as opposites. The uneven drape of Wonwoo's white shirt vs Jeonghan's angular black jacket; even though their looks contrast, the sense of familiarity between them is a result of their shared path to this point.

Jeonghan: Vocal team. His self-produced 2021 solo "Dream" is available on Youtube in both Korean and Japanese. This will be his first official unit debut within the group. With an androgynous beauty and soft singing voice, his other name is "angel."On the other side of his steady gaze that looks to somewhere far, his twelve brothers are always with him. The easy silhouette of the linen snuggles up to his body, creating a look that exudes acceptance [of your everything]. The dignified styling lives up to his laid-back charm of easily adapting to any situation."Meeting my members was destiny itself."

Wonwoo: Hip hop team. He released a duet with Mingyu in 2021 titled "Bittersweet." The duality between his usual calm and composed demeanor and his on-stage seeming personality change plus impactful deep voice, captivates [the audience].He shows a new expression in every new release. The adventure to unearth his sleeping potential has just begun."My actions itself will decide my future."

They contrast each other but embrace each other's differences; their trust and bond built over the years.

Jeonghan and Wonwoo arrive in a studio basked in sunlight. They exuded a melancholy sort of beauty in their JW "This Man" single album that takes your breath away. But contrary to their mystical concept, they kept pleasant in a relaxed mood from start to finish to even their breaks. First, we inquired about their relationship with each other.JH: We're always together during work but our hobbies are completely opposites so our personalities don't interfere with each other in private. That makes being together all the more comfortable.
WW: Because Jeonghan is active and I like games (laughs). But we're surprisingly a good match when we're abroad for work, so we go out together often.The concept for this issue of Figaro Japon is "fortune telling." Do you believe in destiny or fortune?
JH: I think humans are led down a path by the destiny that they're born with, so l'm the type to believe in it completely!
WW: I'm the opposite of Jeonghan. I believe our actions themselves affect our destinies and lives.What do you consider to be destiny or a turning point for SEVENTEEN?
WW: Thinking back, we were faced with a critical situation [around the timel when we turned our personal content into a variety [show] and prepared online content during covid. It might have been the group's turning point in the sense that it helped us be more widely known.
JH: Debuting itself was a big turning point. But even before that, personally, being a trainee in and of itself decided my destiny because it was an impossible feat for the people in my hometown. I was scouted at a station that I didn't use often and so much happened while I was a trainee but I pulled through about three times. I thought, "aa, this means it's my fate to go down this path." Wonwoo, our meeting itself was destiny!

What do you think you'd be doing if you didn't become an artist?
JH: I think I'd definitely be working at a factory or a farm because I was born into an environment where that was a very natural progression. Wouldn't Wonwoo be a pro gamer?
WW: I think that'd have been impossible (laughs)
Hmm, I've never even imagined it. But if I were to consider myself now, I like photography so I might have pursued that.Your title song "Last night" of your unit album "This Man" portrays the search for something while wandering through people's dreams. Do you see the same dreams or experience déjà vu?
WW: I've never experienced it while abroad but while I'm standing at the side of the stage, I often feel a sense of déj vu like I'm doing the same actions as those that l've seen in my dreams.
JH: Sometimes I have lucid dreams. I'm able to have fun in my dreams that way.Do you have lucid nightmares too?
JH: Yes. It's fun because I'm conscious of the fact that it's a nightmare.
WW: That's the first l've heard. You're like a magician.
JH: Yeah, in the dream (laughs)SEVENTEEN is known for their shared promise ring since their debut era. What meaning does the ring have for you?
JH: I think all the members share the same sentiment; it's proof of our pride as a member of SEVENTEEN. The ring exists to remind us of the preciousness of our reality [as SEVENTEEN].
WW: I feel the same way.Aside from your rings, do you have any item or jinx that you use during important moments?
JH: | have nothing in particular. Days that go well are meant to be well, and days that don't go well are days I have to do better.
WW: (thinks deeply) | also don't have such things.We've seen Jeonghan with a toy sword during practice though. (laughs)
JH: That! Rather than a jinx, it's more that I like soft wiggling things so holding something puts me at ease.Do you feel you've changed from yourself in the past?
WW: There was a sense of nervousness during our debut era, so I wasn't able to put myself forward, but now that's not the case. Though, my feelings towards music and my passion for my profession have not changed. I think each member's current self is their real selves.
JH: In the past, I strongly wanted to do everything perfectly and when things didn't go the way I wanted them to, I would blame myself. Of course that desire hasn't changed but no matter what happens, the outcome is also destiny. I became able to overcome everything positively.

Your best album, released in April as the accumulation of your nine years, was so widely loved that it also included the Korean version of your Japan original songs. Which song do you especially like?
JH: "Fallin' Flower." Even we are stunned in awe whenever we see the beauty of the performance and how it fits perfectly with the song. It's like a work of art.
WW: I like "Ima -Even if the world ends tomorrow-".
It is exactly the type of song that I like.Your first appearance on NHK Kouhaku last year was widely spoken about. (S.Coups and Jeonghan were absent due to injury)
WW: It was fun because the atmosphere of the venue was nice and I was able to spend the end of year in a different environment from usual. We were messaging Jeonghan in real time and the members were able to spend a fun year-end with each other.
JH: It's unfortunate that I couldn't perform even though we were given such an opportunity. Of course our performance goes without saying, but I was proud to see my members do well in other areas too.You won the most desired Album of the Year at 2023 MAMA Awards. What kind of talk did you have with your members [afterwards]?
WW: The day after MAMA was our tour's Nagoya show so there, we took our time to look back on our activities and shared the happiness of a good year.
JH: Hmm, let's see. I remember for the whole day, we were gripped with gratitude and performed on stage with even more energy than usual.How do you feel about realizing your personal biggest stadium stage this year?
WW: | always stand on stage with the feeling of wanting to enjoy the moment with CARATs but being all-13 present after a long time felt like a festival. It was very fun.
JH: I was moved by how big we've grown and how much love we receive. I got hurt during our tour last year so l was really happy being able to stand on stage again. Performing at a stadium even in Japan is an honor and felt like a dream.
WW: Isn't it destiny?
JH: You're right, this is also destiny.SEVENTEEN is known as a self-producing group from their performance to their music ever since their debut. But the reality was, it can't be said that their environment was as facilitated as it is now. Despite that, the bond and music between the thirteen members who always give their best moved people's hearts and gave birth to a big fandom. Looking back on the journey, what kind of future do they envision?
WW: In these nine years, there were a lot of happy moments but it was also a very long period of intense joy, anger, sorrow, and various emotions. From now on, I would like to pave a future with the members and CARATs that's filled with even more happiness than now.
JH: My nine years as SEVENTEEN passed in an instant. Even though there were hard times, I think I'm able to feel [that time flew by] because of all the good memories. Naturally, I'm also wishing for a happy future for us. But that's also up to destiny!
WW: You're a total fatalist (laughs)
JH: Yep, I am!

Time flies. In the blink of an eye, nine years have passed, leaving only the remnants of the countless adventures. Having a career on the stage, under the spotlight and the watchful eyes of the crowd, he continued to be surrounded by love and cheers. XU MINGHAO knows he stands here with no regrets because he truly loves what it is.

THE NINTH YEAR

"Yesterday was my ninth debut anniversary."Without realising it, XU MINGHAO let out a long breath before he spoke.At 16, he set out alone from China to Korea and became a K-pop trainee. He knew neither a single soul nor the language, and he soon realised that "pursuing your dreams can be lonely". The dream he chased was more distant than he had ever imagined. He lived in uncertainty but persevered toward his goal even when failure seemed possible, holding on tightly to the one chord that struck his heart. A year later, on May 26th 2015, 17-year-old XU MINGHAO debuted alongside his 12 members as SEVENTEEN. The group name, "17", symbolises its unity: 13 members, 3 units and 1 complete team, with each number reflecting the value and significance of every member."17" is also the title of their most recent album. On April 29th, SEVENTEEN released their album 17 IS RIGHT HERE. According to media reports, this comeback has been eagerly anticipated as it has been a long time since all 13 members are promoting together. This is something XU MINGHAO is especially grateful for. "I always cherish every opportunity for all 13 of us to be together," he says.

Having a comeback means a sharp increase in workload, causing XU MINGHAO to be constantly on the move. Since April, he has been promoting their new album, performing on stage, travelling between Korea and China to record variety shows, and going on tour, which is of utmost importance to him and his members. He must remain fully attentive at all times and give his all, focusing his energy on completing every task assigned to him. With speed and enthusiasm, he counters the demands with professionalism deeply etched into his being. This has almost become his daily routine this month.Beyond his hectic performances and schedules, photoshoots became a form of relaxing escape for him. On the day of the interview, he had just completed a video shoot for a brand at a cultural art space in Beijing, featuring works by artist Albert Oehlen. During his time there, he found himself drawn to the pieces by the German Neo-expressionist artist. This experience made him feel as though he was enjoying a leisurely stroll through an art exhibit even while at work, a realisation that brought him joy.If we don't mention it, it's difficult to imagine that just yesterday he was in Kanagawa, Japan, performing at Nissan Stadium as a member of SEVENTEEN. Even though it was already the second day of their concert at the same venue, there wasn't an empty seat in the 72,000-capacity stadium. XU MINGHAO will never forget the moment he gazed out over the audience from the stage. The stadium was so vast that he couldn't see its end, filled with throngs of excited fans, both local and from overseas. They erupted into thunderous screams the moment SEVENTEEN appeared."I never imagined I could be on such a massive stage," his voice betrayed his uncontainable stage excitement.Nissan Stadium is the largest venue SEVENTEEN has ever toured. On 百度问一问 (a platform similar to Reddit), someone asked, "What does it mean to have a 'Tokyo Dome tour'?"A netizen replied that many artists consider performing at Tokyo Dome as their ultimate goal, a symbol of success achieved only by the most popular artists. At the end of 2023, SEVENTEEN had already reached this milestone. Now, compared to the 50,000-capacity Tokyo Dome, Nissan Stadium boasts an additional capacity of 22,000 seats.Even though every venue on the tour had been meticulously planned and documented during the preparation process, the reality surpassed any description in words. In XU MINGHAO's heart, he had a clear understanding and experience of performing in a venue with a 50,000 capacity. However, the thought of an audience of 72,000 was unimaginable and even daunting. It wasn't until he stood on stage, bathed in the spotlight and surrounded by the cheers of fans, that he began to feel the enormity of the moment. Yet, even now, he was still overwhelmed by the sheer size of the crowd. "I felt like I was dreaming, but the dream came true."

Two days before the interview, he found himself in the midst of a packed stadium, engulfed by the deafening roars of the crowd. To XU MINGHAO, the voices of his fans were like a switch that ignited his internal energy and passion for the stage - the most crucial driving force since his debut. Performing on stage had become a routine he was accustomed to, a reflex etched into his bones, the ultimate expression of his hard work. Yet, it was the overwhelming screams from the audience once the concert began that truly fueled his energy and kept his performances fresh and vibrant."We are honoured to have our fans here. The more people there are, the more excited we become," he continued. "We will perform wherever our fans are, no matter the number of people."This excitement is closely tied to XU MINGHAO's eagerness to create. He eagerly seizes every opportunity to express himself, pouring his heart into presenting his best and never wanting to waste any time.XU MINGHAO hopes to imbue his understanding and expression of the song to the highest degree. "MAESTRO," which roughly translates to "Master of music," allows each member the freedom to interpret what that means to them individually. Each member has a unique perspective. XU MINGHAO crafts his character in the music video as if dissecting a character in a film. He incorporates elements from the song's melody, lyrics, and choreography to convey his interpretation of the "MAESTRO." "The song has a fast tempo, and there's a choreography section in the music video that resembles tap dance. From this, I interpret the character as someone who harbours a deep intensity within, which manifests physically.""It's been nine years since my debut. All I can do is strive to always prepare new things for everyone," he says. "With every piece of work, I hope to infuse it with what's in my heart and present it."Performing on the grandest stages requires not only the best talent and ability but also lasting perseverance. XU MINGHAO can vividly recall every practice session leading up to their latest comeback with the new album. "We typically practice for at least a week, sometimes up to two weeks. The quickest we've ever learned choreography was in just two days." The preparation for this comeback included dance practices and filming the music video, spanning approximately one month. Amid these schedules, they not only prepared for their comeback stage but also rehearsed for upcoming concert performances. As a member of the performance unit, XU MINGHAO also dedicated time to perfecting his unit's performance for the concert.His flexible limbs are the sharp blades he wields. After years of pushing his body to its limits through rigorous practice, he has developed a keen sensitivity. Nine years have acquainted him with the responsibilities of being an idol and the demanding career on stage. However, the motivation and pressure he places on his body occasionally leave him feeling drained. He holds himself to high expectations. "When we practice challenging choreographies, we can't really hit the gym, so it's harder to maintain peak physical condition," he explains. With no other option, he relies on his intellect—a different kind of blade-to strategically focus his limited energy and use it efficiently.His strong sense of responsibility fueled his ambition and perseverance from a young age. Learning martial arts and dance early on, he never let his guard down. "The weight of responsibility on my shoulders is heavy, but it's not a burden." Pausing for a moment, he continued, "I'm in this career now, and there are so many people who love and support me. I owe it to them to give back with my energy. This is my motivation and the responsibility I willingly embrace."

THE ENERGY CYCLE

The relationship between an idol and their fans is akin to an energy exchange and cycle between the individual and the collective. The fans' unwavering support forms the foundation of the idol's existence, while the idol, in turn, provides nourishment for the minds of their fans.Many fans of XU MINGHAO cherish quotes from his interactions with them during lives or shows, gathering them into a collection. One fan described these interactions as a "shot of emotional stabiliser," a sentiment that garnered 17,000 likes.In one of his memorable interactions with fans, a quote from his live session on November 7th 2019 stood out. Responding to a half-joking question from a fan, XU MINGHAO earnestly said, "It's okay even if my fans stop liking me in the future, that just means you grew up." While the first part of the sentence is often heard from many artists, reflecting their acceptance of letting go of those who wish to leave, the latter part is rarely emphasized. This perspective places priority on the personal growth and evolution of those who express their love and support.When asked about the meaning behind his statement, XU MINGHAO provided insight into his personal feelings about the relationship between idols and fans. "I think it's related to how I feel personally," he began. He expressed that in life, we encounter numerous people-some fleetingly, others who remain in our lives for a time before moving on. "But everyone I cross paths with, I find meaningful," he explained. "They evoke certain emotions in me and teach me valuable lessons that contribute to my growth."XU MINGHAO believes that human interactions form relationships, acting as threads that connect people and generate energy. He sees energy as a cyclical force that ebbs and flows, disappearing and reappearing, akin to the fertiliser of life that aids in his growth and contemplation. "Everyone nourishes others differently," he observes, which allows him to empathise and understand different perspectives. "If one day my fans leave me, it must be because they have already gained what they needed.""They leave because they have already gained all the value that I could provide and absorbed that energy. I've already given everything I could on my part, so there's no reason to feel sad about it, right?"
